This bill sucks and everything, but calling it communist is more than a little bit dumb. That is to say, anyone who tells you this is communist is dumb, and you're dumb for believing them. Please give them my email so they can contact me and I can explain to them what the word communism means.

(1) Anyone who claims that America is turning communist has been ignoring the history of the past forty years. In 1980 Ronald Reagan represented the far right. Today, even our furthest left is to the right of where Reagan was. There is no point in the history of America in which we've been further away from communism than we are today. There are maybe three people on this board old enough to remember when we even had a labor movement, and one of them is just james+burgundy's fake-elderly alt.

(2) This bill is the opposite of communist. It would be hard for it to be more exactly opposite. As it currently stands, the Internet is the single greatest example of a communally-owned and communally-operated system in all of human history. There has never been anything more purely communist and democratic. This bill, by contrast, would give private interests the power control and crush everything that's currently the purview of the public. It's the definition of anti-communist. As far as examples of "communism" go, you have made the worst possible choice.

Unless I misinterpreted your title and you're saying that "America is turning communist" because the people are standing up to bills like this one, in which case, god let's hope so.

Don't blame them for not understanding Communism, they've had 30 years of the finest propaganda telling them otherwise.

To be fair, American economics and politics have had a good number of Communist elements thrown into them (food stamps/cards, social security, unions, etc), but we are almost certainly the most conservative of non-crazy governments.
