Printed Rulebook?

I'm just wondering, has anyone ever made a printed version of the rulebook? It seems like a good idea, I'm not sure if it's legal because of the copyrights though. If someone has printed it, is there anyway for me to get a copy? It would help me a good deal, not to mention letting me read it away from my computer. And I mean like in a book format, not just printing it of your computer.

I'm pretty sure people have printed and bound it before. I would wait for the new one to be mostly finished though.

There were a few discussions that mainly halted once Rayhawk announced that he was working on the '10 ruleset. We seem to be waiting on that before any major moves are made. Copyrights and other issues abound, of course, especially with online publishers...

I bet the 2010 book will have a pdf file you could print and you could put it in a binder. But, legal reasons are preventing Rayhawk from making a proper book.

If you've got a printer that'll print two pages on both sides of the paper, some superglue and some sewing proficiency you can bind it yourself. Book-binding is not illegal, but attempting to sell such a book would be.

Exactly, I did it. Used some nice paper, quality color printer, plastified cover and back cover also some plastic rings for easier browsing and voila, Da Holy Rules.

The legal reasons are that doing layout and typesetting for a proper book is a lot more work than laying out the website version, so I've never managed it. Also I always end up working on a new edition rather than making PDFs of the old ones.

If I was going to print up a proper book, I'd do it through lulu.com. I haven't tried it myself yet, but people whose opinions I respect recommend it.

I've got a PDF in progress using LaTeX, and I'm working on learning Scribus so I can make a more fancy version (LaTeX is primarily intended for writing technical articles; it can do tables, figures, automatic numbering, any sort of math you can imagine, and it will automatically flow text around these, but it's not much good for fancy things like cool sidebar or page formats; Scribus is a proper desktop publishing application, so it will let me make a document that actually looks like a proper game rulebook). You all will be the first ones to hear about it when it's done!

FYI, the 2010 (2011? 2012?) PDF is at 206 pages, and we still have 3 chapters to go...

I wouldn't think there would be too much legal trouble, as I have seen unofficial lego books all the time at the bookstore. like those mindstorms books and "Badass Lego Guns". (Actual book, do want.)

I just took advantage of free printing at my school to print off 2001..

I printed off the 2005 rules and some of the 2001 rules as a supplement and put them into a binder. I'll probably be doing the same with the 2010 rules when its finished.
