I thought the empire had quality as well. TIE fighters are only one thing. What about the Imperial Star Destroyers, the Death Star, the fact that their troops are better armed, armored and trained, and AT-STs?

-Was blown up... TWICE! (Yes Spike, it can happen.)
-The troops mostly suck, their helmets often impaired vision, a large number of their blaster rifles got defective crystals, and the AT-STs were taken down by Ewoks...

Apparently, the only thing allowing the Empire to keep its military superiority for his short reign was Palpatine himself...

Imperial Star Destroyers are actually on a FAR grander scale than the shitty old republic ones. A few old republic destroyers saw usage as escorts and frigates, but ISDs and SSDs (like The Executor) were definitely way better in every single way.
