My world started in January. with the most recent shot being October.
And that's not all of it; I appear to be missing screenshots of several builds including my snowy base, village Vitoria, and the underwater tunnel to nowhere.

they are from when i tried my hand at textureing. they are glow-stone.
Not sure why i did them like that; i personally dislike them now.

I'll do a tour of my world at some point and retake all these pictures with the new lighting.

Ok; I'll try to get a download sorted.

A couple of notes:

PLAY ON PEACEFUL! I leave many areas unlit and it is built with peaceful in mind. multiple dark areas exist.

some of the map has not been visited for Months. The last time the floating island saw work was 1.5, so when visiting parts and you see something odd (such as a ladder topped with a door instead of a hatch) remember this was built before many features may of been added.

Same goes for lighting, I haven't seen all the map since 1.8 so don't know the state of it all.

And last but not least: this is a semi survival map, which is why i have chests of stuff. It only recently turned creative with the building of the southern extension of the railway. (that massive brick viaduct!)

Also I suggest installing "Stevecarts" (search it, there should be thread on the MC forums) as it adds many carts useful for navigating my rail system.

Strangely, after I play this world for a bit ice starts to engulf the ocean and even later than that snow starts to fall on the previously ice and snow free world. I was wondering if anyone knew the cause.

I lolled.
Other that the Stark family motto, maybe it is the fact that the world was created one year ago before Notch included the biomes. With Update to 1.1 the winter biome was reintrocuded and snow is falling in random areas.

Sometimes you get strange effects when you play old maps now. One of my first maps for example: Every new chunk I explored was ocean. The map that I had explored so far became a continent surrounded by water and the edges were simply cut off. Only far in the distance did I fid new land with biomes and all.

I suggest playing on a back dated client.
I built this from 1.3 to 1.7
then quit playing minecraft because my computer couldn't handle the game anymore.
I need to dig this world back out and put it on my new computer, shame about them changing how worlds work TWICE.
God i remember alpha, such a beautiful game, AND it ran on my netbook really well on far render! I Remember "hell" and the massive stockpiling of torches for when lanterns where to be added. Oh and the addition of compasses! Oh god those where useful! And Biomes! When those where first added they where TINY I found a few that where 10 blocks wide!
I miss old minecraft, it feels so bloated and nothing cool is added anymore.

More notes on this world:
If you notice landing sites and the "aerodrome" this is due to me using Pchans airship mod for mobility.
The rail network I HOPE works but takes a bit of skill to handle the powered minecarts. remember that right clicking moves the cart if your not holding fuel!
The lighthouses are part of the airship system, I used them to spot before maps; the aerodrome also holds headings for using airships. I remembered some landmarks for getting to the island but can't now.
Not sure if this is on this save but there should be a underwater tunnel south of victoria, unfinished and pointless. gave up as it was too much work.

Yeah. It may just be i've gotten tired of the core building mechanics and so even with the new updates there's nothing interesting for me. I've been playing mainly OpenTTD, DF and Caves of Qud recently.
