Microscale mecha

Post by Robot Monkey » Fri May 25, 2012 3:28 pm

I made some Mobile Frame Zero-scale mecha to go with my Microscale rules.

Image
The "Samurai"-class command mecha. armed with a power-sword, and plasma cannon, a one-shot rocket pod, and a jump pack. (yes, made with the z-suit frame by zeessi)

Image

Image
The "Silverback"-class artillery mecha. Armed with 2 long-range artillery cannons, and an autocannon.

Image

Image

Image
Two "Guardian"-class combat mecha. armed with machine guns and plasma-chainsaws.

So, what do you guys think?
(suggestions for faction names/faction backstory are welcome)

WHAT BLACK MAGIC DID YOU USE TO MAKE THE SAMURAI'S ARMS!?
I've seen similar, but I can't figure out how you did this variant.

6. take minifig hand.
7. stick into the peghole on a leg.
8. put hand part into hole on headlight brick.
9. insert exo-force claw into bottom of foot.
10. done.

Blue and white factions are usually boring democratic good guy factions. Which is why you should stick these guys under a really pompous Monarchy that uses it's people like a badly oiled machine(while still being a powerful, menacing empire).
This sig is too fucking large: show anyway

Hmm. I used blue an white because I have an excess of blue hinges and because I was bored of building in red+black.

Possibly make them some evil corporation that tries to look good to the public, but uses it's workers like they're not even human, and seizes land from local tows to fill with smoke-belching factories?
nahh.
I'll make them a communist empire of sorts.
How about the United Communist Empire, or UCE?

How about something along the lines of Martial Law South Africa? You've got a bunch of colonists who have had some area for a long time but got ousted by the indigenous tribes, who use the resources and leftover weaponry of their former conquerors?

How about the People's Glorious Empire?

Also, you people and your microscale. I think I've got to take a whack at this.
It's a secret to everybody.

These look pretty good!

For a faction idea, maybe something related to Imperial Japan would be best. "Heart of the Sun" or something.

The Necrons in the background add a nice touch.

I love the Silverback's frame. I might have to steal that for a hardsuit one day.

I like the samurais; they turned out real nice.

Not a fan of the silverbacks. Too bulky / bloksy around the mid section. The legs are so thin for something that seems so heavy.

What scale are you using? Looks like about 2p or 3p ? It's a tough scale to work in because things are sooooo small and compact. That's why I really appreciate the samurai. It turned out really well for a tough scale to work in.

It looks like the arms are Image + Image + Image

What I don't understand is how the leg attaches to the headlight brick.

You utilize a minifig hand to plug into the socket on the leg, and then put the hand into the square hole on the headlight brick.

The scale for these guys is a person equals 1 brick and 2 studs high. So these are roughly dreadnought-sized.
