BrikWars Swedish National Championship

21st - 23rd September 2012

Finnåker, Sweden

Brought to you by the Diocese of Västerås, of the Church of Sweden, the Swedish BrikWars Championship will be held this autumn to decide the greatest BrikWarrior in Sweden (or in the world, if foreigners show up). Three days of plastic violence, including both a BrikWars tutorial and a tournament. The winner will not be decided by the greatest number of victories, since that only rewards Anorakism, but by Almighty Bennies, as they are a reward for Awesome.

The championship has been officially sanctioned by Mike Rayhawk.

The price is not set in stone yet, but will be no greater than 780kr (about 90€ or 70£ or 110$) and includes food and accomodation. You will also be able to borrow an army if you don't have one yourself.

More details to come. Suggestions on how to increase the Awesome are welcome.

Just playing to have fun, its no big deal to give away a Bennie.
If its now a competition with a winner, why should a player give any to anyone?

I would guess so, but bennies might not show up as often from players who already have a lot of them since they don't wanna lose their lead, especially with prize money involved.

I would just not tell them that you're judging by bennies until the end, but definitely still teach them all about 'em.

Bennies are just an empirical measure of awesome.
So tell people to remember to keep the spirit of the game in mind, Maybe even tell them that those who win bennies will win, to maximise awesome. The problem is that those playing to win wouldn't give bennies as it's an advantage within the match it self. An umpire or even any number of observers could vote though.

Though watching anoraks lose despite annihilating their opponent could be funny.

Unsophisticated players might think that the Letter of the rules is more important than the Spirit - but the Letter isn't liable to sneak up behind you with an axe if you abuse it.

My guess is that those who refuse to hand out Bennies won't receive many themselves.

The prize shouldn't be money, that's too serious. Maybe Lego sets.

I can't see the benny thing working under normal conditions, because even a completely awesome player might get stuck against some asshole who refuses to give out a single one. On the other hand, if you can get enough of an audience, it might work if you award bennies by popular acclaim. Like ask everybody watching "does that deserve a benny" and let the players try to play to the audience as much as each other.

Not necessarily true. I got a great deal off of a polish bricklink store for my crimson dawn guys, who were much cheaper there than they would have been at any US store. The torsos were $0.60 each, with 60 odd torsos, while most places had them at over $1.30 each and only had around 1-5 torsos. I ended up getting the torsos, heads, helmets and weapons for 20 guys for about $40, although I had to find legs somewhere else.

Also, despite our problems, the USA is still pretty awesome. Compared to many other countries, our problems are pretty small. A massive obesity epidemic for example is far easier to deal with than mass starvation. Our dysfunctional government still functions better than many others, such as Greece, Russia, China, Egypt, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea or Somalia, to name a few.

I realize that this isn't about the US, I was just making a side comment. Having a National Brikwars Championship is really epic though and I want to commend Arkbrik on being able to pull this off.
If I weren't about to start my senior year of college this fall, I'd totally try to go to it.
