Microscope Forum RPG - Beta Session

Post by knolli » Tue Jul 10, 2012 3:30 pm

Like ArkBrik's game, we will forst name a genre/general setting and work write the history of our world, then take a closer look at the details.

Players:
Knolli
Ross_Varn
IVhorseman

So what will our world be like? Sword and Sorcery? Or another Space Drama like Arkbrik's game?

I could do whatever. Definitely something non-standard - if we do swords and sorcery, it'd better be about some kind of fucked-up bizzare nightmare world shit.

I'd like to limit it to three players and IVhorseman and Ross_Varn were first. Sorry, Runs.

The first step is to find the Premise. How about: Atlantis and how it vanishes without a trace?

Alternatively:
Superheroes
What if the One Ring hadn't been destroyed?
Alien Inavasion
Zombie Apocalypse
Google takes over the world
In a Galaxy far far away (Space Opera).
Humanity has to flee/evacuate earth (low tech sci-fi)
Sword and Sorcery: The end of Sorcery
Post-apocalyptic (including: "Waterworld", nuclear winter, post-zombie-apocalyptic, like in Fallout, Wall-E,...)
ice age
Pirates of the Carribian
Stone Age
Dinosaurs
Any combination of the above.
Something completely different.

An updated trope of Atlantis would be cool. I had thought of some sort of Mayan-style civilization's path, but with the potential for Magitek and Greek Mythos and the whole "men become unto gods" line- let's go with Badass Atlantis.

I want to start. Now! So let's do something Atlantian. But the Premise should be a bit more specific. Ross, any ideas?

Maybe we can work on that while we define our Bookends. I suggest:
First Period: The founding of Atlantis.
Last Period: Bronze Age (regular History)

You can't get more unspecific ;-)

Atlantis sounds cool, but I agree that we need to update it with something bizarre.

Does the Bronze Age work as a bookend? Would "The Fall" be more appropriate?

Or do we want to follow the lives of the Atlanteans AFTER the fall? It could still absolutely end in the bronze age as a time period if that's the case.

Try to think up a premise that sums up the whole story in one sentence, without too many details. The bizarre stuff can be added through the Palette.

(Are you OK with me randomly plopping into the thread to dispense :protip:s?)

I am not only totally ok with you popping up and giving advise, it is very much appreciated.

I was thinking that Atlantis rises to unknown hights (by whatever means) bit finally withers/disappears and the world that we know starts somewhere in the early ages. There are several 10.000 years humankind existed before the Iron Age. On tha other hand Industral Revolution happened in only 500 years, so there is plenty of time Atlantis could have happened. And since this is our game, we don't need to be restricted by "real history" at all if we choose not to.

"The highly advanced Culture of Atlantis existed in the early Ages, but disappeared before the beginning of the Bronze Age."

OK, so let's go with your book-ends.

I like the idea of Atlantis rising into the sky - it's literally the opposite of a fall.

There is a reason why I simply said "disappeared" and not "collapse" or "fall" or anything that would imply a "bad end". That way we can find out, what happened to Atlan

First Period: The founding of Atlantis.
Last Period: Atlantis vanishes from history

Light or Dark? All four combinations could be fun.

Maybe Atlantis (the continent) fell when Cthulu rolled over to the other side of his bed.
