Supernatural Dice Pool Reference Cards
Hey all,
So I was messing around with some templates on MSE today and had an idea for brikwar spell cards. I tried to make spell-based magic in the past, essentially based on the warhammer/mordheim system. I really do like the flexibility of the Supernatural Dice Pool. There has been a passing comment that Use Ratings for spells are being eliminated. I don't know what impact that has on the Supernatural Dice system as a whole, if it is being totally revamped, but for the following material, I will assume the rules are staying basically the same as found in the Rules thread elsewhere.
So my idea? As I've played battles with wizards, given the narrowness of cliches, I have gravitated toward various kinds of spells limited by the number of Supernatural Dice I have available to manipulate. That got me thinking, why not make reference cards for those basic spell effects? Bam...idea born. Granted, the cards I've cooked up pretty narrowly apply to the mages in my army, but I think this sort of pre-planning will help me in my battle decision-making.
The following cards are suitable for a "Fire," "Dragon," or "Elemental" mage with a Supernatural Dice Pool of: 2d4, 2d6, 1d10 -
The following four spells I marked "Epic" because they apply to my head wizard with a SD Pool of: 2d4, 2d6, 3d10 -
Enjoy.

Awesome! I love the versatility you're showing within the same dice pools. Cards like these could definitely help inspire some basic effects, but remember that you're not limited to them...
Question: How does d4 fire MOM work? is it just 1d4 momentum? Does it add 1d4 fire damage? Do the flames carry weight?

Re: Supernatural Dice Pool Reference Cards
You are correct; I think the most helpful thing I like about them is they make me think in terms of spell mechanics - range, damage, arc, radius - and seeing those terms visually also lets me know that, "Oh, I can take this number here and put it in this part of the effect instead if I want..." Visual tools.IVhorseman wrote:Awesome! I love the versatility you're showing within the same dice pools. My thought is just an extra d4 momentum, and a sneaky way to get around d6 limits on adding damage to charge weapons, crash damage, or shove distance (if the language of chapter 9 is being taken literally . As damage, I would myself add it as fire, and if nothing else, its just extra knockback potential.Question: How does d4 fire MOM work? is it just 1d4 momentum? Does it add 1d4 fire damage? Currently drafting VooDoo spells for my witch doctor...

These are great! You should make a more simple, plain white template. I would make a bunch of these to cover all of the spells I usually use, or maybe just make a table.... hmm. good cards.

Fantastic! BTW I love how you used one of my images for the fireball spell.
When I had her use it however, I used 2d6 for the range and, in addition to the 2d4 fire, threw in the 1d10 for explosive damage rather than range.

Naah, I like fancy templates. And this one comes from Magic Set Editor, so it's not my design anyway. I wanted something that sort of looked like a scroll or a book. If you download MSE, there will be lots of MtG type templates to fill with spells to your heart's content.samuelzz10 wrote:These are great! You should make a more simple, plain white template. Could you put a link to that Magic editor? Imagine how many spells we could think up if we all had access.

The cards I made use the template "Saga" in the additional template section.
Here are some spells I made for my Witchdoctor who runs with my barbarian army; he has a Supernatural Dice Pool of: 3d6, 2d8 -

These are awesome. They really show how versatile the SD system is.
This should be in the Rulebook somewhere:
"Any problem on earth can be solved with the careful application of high explosives"

I had a go at some cards for SuperHero powers. These are for a SuperHero with Supernatural 2d6, 1d10 and 1d12. I listed the total dice used for each power in the title for easy reference.

Re: Supernatural Dice Pool Reference Cards
Listing the dice at the top was a good idea. I tried to get all of my dice involved for each power, but wasn't always successful.

that's good for the use penalty/skill roll anyway.

Re: Supernatural Dice Pool Reference Cards
So my current goal is to generate about 54 of these types of cards; there is a company online that prints custom card images on relatively durable playing-card material, and I can get 54 for about $11 free shipping...
Anyway, this current batch is suitable for a lightning mage or perhaps a sci-fi psychic. Supernatural Dice Pool is: 3d6, 2d12 -

I like the electro mage cards! I might have to use them with my RIN Chaplain.
