I think for the hip it might behoove you to look up Natalya's spider tank. I'm typing this from a phone so I can't dig up a picture now, but the joints she uses in the tank's legs might be perfect for this application.

Is that walker come kind of cross-breed between the BF2142 walkers and the new Hawken mecha?

Here's an update:



I built the second leg and made the joints a little tighter.



here's the back.



This is the joint/gearbox I ended up using. it allows the legs to move only if you turn the black pieces on the top. Took me forever to find those damn spiral gear pieces though.



Nice and small. perfect.

My only concern is the weight being too much and breaking these joints:

maybe you should cover them with some sort of flaps, idunno, like pirate flag pieces in gray.

Those are really weak joints... why not use some kind of TECHNIC connection? Then you'd be able to reinforce the area between the calve and thigh with a few bars.

I would suggest you rebuild to topmost part of the leg so it points upwards a bit like in the picture.

You could either triple the connection or, like Keldo said, use Technic pieces.

Also, make sure you really have strong legs because that top chassis looks heavy if you intend to make it that size.

hopefully once I rethink these joints it will angle up a little more. I may end up having to rebuild the whole thing though.

This is something I really did not take into consideration when I first designed the upper part of the leg. I was going more for cosmetics. Ever since I've been thinking on how to make them stronger.

Edit: Would you guys look down on me if I used glue?

Seriously though, I'm only against gluing things because I genrally move on to other things after I make stuff. This seems like the kind of thing you would want o make permanent, so I understand your wanting to glue it to make it stronger. I say do it, but think it over a lot first.

I ended up gluing it... BUT it is a lot stronger now and I hope it will be sufficient.
