I cleared up the worst damage and made it fireproof (hopefully).Now I have to get tons of clay, for the upcoming work.

My fireplace has never caused me trouble, just make sure you don't have flammable blocks within 1 block sideways/diagonally or within four blocks vertically, or something like that.

That's fine if you have a building made of stone. But a concrete ceiling in a framework house just looks out of place. And most blocks that would look acceptable are flamable. Or I'm missing something. Suggestions?

Build it into the wall, like I did, that way it shouldn't be under the next floor above. I've got a wooden ceiling, and it works okay.

I just realized how near the nether portals of the different settlements are. Two are already connected by road, but there are several more I found. Who is willing to help me build a portal network with explicit correlation between portals in the nether and the overworld (that means no two entrances leading to one exit). I plan to make them safe and mob proof in an "lost temple"-like style.

Looks fine to me. Maybe your Minecraft is down. Have you tried double-clicking on the Minecraft icon?

It gives me the normal "can't reach server!" thing. Is it something to do with me living in England perhaps? When I attempt to connect it "timed out".

PS: I know how to start minecraft, and my minecraft is working fine at the moment.

Yesterday I also had trouble reaching the server for a while. Same with a friend's one. Coriously, Matt's server was the only one available, and that's usually the one that can't be connected to. Later in the evening/night everything worked fine again.
