Roller Derby has a strange history as a sport where it went through a 'pro-wrestling' staged phase. The current sport still had some of those roots when it was revived back in the early 2000's, but these days it is much more competitive and serious. There are still hold-overs that help define the sport though, most notably Derby Names.

Either way, when the crowd was cheering for me on Saturday, it wasn't because of how I look or what I was wearing. It was because the last jam of the first period was my first time out as a jammer and within 5 seconds of the jammer-whistle blowing I had gotten out of the pack and was the lead jammer, then I continued on and scored 15 points which untied the otherwise (up until then) low-scoring game bringing it to 50-35, and it wasn't even a power-jam situation.

Oh and then in the second period I jammed 3 more times, two of which I got lead, and I scored a combined 7 more points while in the jam where I didn't get lead the opposing jammer only got 3 or 4 before I forced her to call it off.

And now we're back to our scheduled programming. Shadow and Bragallot get ready to combine fire on the Galaxy Patrol guy.




He goes down!!




Warhead dips a rag in the Maniac Beer and lights it...




He chucks it and it explodes. The guy in red gets set on fire.




Warhead follows up with his incinerator.




He doesn't make any more kills, but now the way is temporarily blocked by a wall of flames. A corpse from earlier also ignites and burns.

With the enemies out of the way, I go over and heal Shadow.




Shadow is 100% normal again, he can do whatever now.




Shadow and I grab our gear again.

Colette moves up and takes cover by the McDonald's.




Some more enemies move up, but the wall of flames is blocking them from doing much. One guy shot at Warhead but he missed. The rocket launcher guy didn't have a clear line of sight to a target because the BURP mountain was in the way.

I read up the rules and now i am determined to go to an event. If the next one just wasn't so friggin' expensive...
