IVhorseman Vs. RoC77

Post by IVhorseman » Mon Oct 01, 2012 7:22 pm

So yesterday (Sunday) Roc and I got together and had a Brikwar. Neither of us brought our full arsenal, but because of it we actually managed to play out two full battles! He's got all the pictures, but let me give you the story...

Background

Ya-har! The 45th Union had flown a ship over dreaded space-pirate territory, and a cargo vessel was shot down! This ship was carrying deadly intelligence sealed within a suitcase - The General's Dirty Underwear. In an effort to claim the suitcase, the pirates and the union met at the crash site to duel over the remains.

The 45th Union deployed three large infantry squads, including a designated anti-tank unit with RPG soldiers. An IFV with a pretty substantial turret bolstered their forces, as well as a giant, size 6 mechanized armor unit. The army was terrifying, and a pilot had even survived the wreckage to guard the suitcase.

The pirates however made no small effort to secure their booty. Two hover bikes and a quad supplemented a few small infantry squads. For greater mobility, many of the pirates wore jetpacks. The spearhead of their attack however was the size 9 BOAR heavy assault tank. Things were about to get ugly.

Game 1

Pirates won the die roll for the first turn, and didn't lose any time. The mech still had cover behind a building, but the IFV was in range of the BOAR's size 7 gun. I can't tell you how many criticals my gunner got on a d8, but this was one of them. BOOM! I took a size point off of the IFV. One of my troopers even got lucky enough to kill the pilot on the first turn!

Meanwhile Roc eventually got his IFV into position amongst the wreckage, and his infantry used it as cover as they ran to the objective. By the time they got to the end of the battlefield, one of my jetbikers had dismounted and set his HMG up to fortify his position. The mech made it around the corner and fired off some rounds and missiles, but the BOAR focused on it's prey. In just two shots, the main gun reduced the entire machine to a smoldering wreckage. On the other flank, a passenger on the quad got a good missile shot in and killed three infantrymen.

Ultimately, my pirates got the the briefcase first, and set up a kill-zone at the choke-point. The BOAR took the brunt of the attack, and got whittled down pretty heavily, but remained standing strong. My pirate hero did some damage, but eventually he took a missed shot from the BOAR right to the face. One soldier passed off the briefcase to a pilot on a jetbike, and the objective was secured.

Game 2

On the way back home, the pirate force found themselves caught by a road block - an ambush! Another mech was air-dropped in behind the tank and it's light escort, while rocket troopers revealed their presence on the sides. Furthermore, two smaller mechanized hardsuits joined the 45th in their revenge.

45th union got the drop on the tank, which at this point carried several troops sitting on top, some even with mounted weapons. The fight was valiant, but futile. One trooper, armed with a pistol and a buzz-saw, scaled the larger mech in an attempt to steal it. He eventually succeeded, but by the time he had most of his team had been either torched by flamethrowers or simply shot down by overwhelming fire. His theft was useful, and even without piloting skill, he was able to shoot down another mech before being beaten down by the surviving attack force. I put a large dent into the 45th union and destroyed the mechanized assault force, but ultimately his traditional units overran me.

This is the setup for game 1
(Sorry for the limited amount of pics, I was still on a learning curve and got distracted playing)

This was already a little ways in, as you can see the Iron Maiden was blown up, from 2 VERY good shots from IVhorseman's tank. Part of the IFV's turret was blown off from a shot from IVhorseman's hero (it should be noted that over half his team was taking turns trying to hit it but missed, until his hero)

Image
Image

This is my left flank view; I have the remaining guys from my squad hunt down the rocketeer with the green helmet who took out 4 of my guys with on well placed shot.

Image

Blocked by the tail of the warthog, two of my guys gun down the first briefcase thief, and then to lose one from one from the enemy jumping off the turret and cutting him in half. Also note, that one of IVhorseman's bikers post up a machine gun nest to ambush my men coming around the corner. Only to disappoint him later, when no one goes around said corner.

Image
Image

After more than half its structure gone, the Boar backs off to cover the biker with the briefcase.

Image

The Boar takes a shot at the IFV only to badly miss and his hero ends up catching the shot only to have it end badly.

Image

The final push, IFV light's up like roman candle(like in all my games) from a shot from the Boar (who's engine was taken out by then). The following explosion takes out all my men surrounding it except the gunner who was thrown clear. Being the remianing soldier, he runs off to report the case with the general's dirty underwear has been stolen!

Seriously, I had like six regular guys all blasting at this thing uselessly. Only one of them hit, and he didn't even do enough damage to set it off. *shrug*

It was less of a jump and more of a JETPACK CHARGEEEEEEE

Anyways, this picture is right about when the tide of this battle turned to my side. If you notice my troops at the top right, I've got three guys covering the guy with the briefcase - that's even my heavy in the back with his Gattling Minigun. To chase down the briefcase, Roc pretty much had to send guys one-by-one through the wreckage of the downed gunship and what was left of the APC into that tiny little deathtrap, where they'd just get mowed down mercilessly. After that I just passed it off to the biker and zoop! away he went.

They're around, but there are less of them. I know we took a picture when my tank finally blew the fuck up.

Sorry fellas been busy at work...

This is the setup for game 2

The Boar in game one survived game 1, because of it's durability and because anything that could kill it was already dead or out of ammo... So, the 45th setup an ambush to take it down and IVhorsman also wanted to see it blow up!

The 45th drops the maiden on it's rear while a squad attacks from the ridge above and the road block, with the IFV on the flank. Also joining the fray is the new Golem droids.

And due to heat probable heat stroke or just enthralled in trying to kill a big tank, we skip all the way into the middle of the game.... Let see what was missed, combine fire from the IFV, Maiden, and the rocketeers rip pieces off the Boar. And infantry men pick of the pirates off the tank. But the Pirates answer just as well, the golem that leaped off the ridge dies from a combined volley from the pirates by blue bowl hill. And half the men on top of the rigde die from a rocket shot. The Golem on the other side fares better and burns a couple of pirates with its flame thrower. The Maiden at back took most of the shot from the Boar (which at that point took I think 4 shots at it, to only do 1 pip of damage to take out the faceplate). The lost leg was from lucky shot by a mounted pirate.

Image

Image

The 45th goal achieved the Boar BLOWS! The 45th learned from the 1st game to stay away and most of the surviving soldiers survive. A handful of pirates also remain, especially the one who climbed onto the Maiden with the exposed cockpit.

Image

Note the heavy gunner on the top of blue bowl hill; he was wielding the 2010 armor, only by luck he was taken down in the next round or two before he could do more damage.

Image

Image

After several attempts to eject the pilot of the Maiden, the last remaining pirate gently removes him with a chainsaw, and replaces him.

Image

Which didn’t last too long. But he did take out the remaining Golem with him.

If by luck you mean taking a shot from the iron maiden directly to the face, yes it was luck that brought down my heavy.

Pirates climbing the Maiden is pretty classy; wish there had been a close-up of that.

Well done boys.

See the dude attached to the cockpit for pretty much the entire game? He'd been doing that since like... turn 3.
