As I promised earlier, I'm making a BrikWars Stat Card Application for Android Phones.

BrikWars Stats is starting with only the default ones Rayhawk made, but I'm going to expand it with an army list section where you can look at unit types for a given army, provided of course that they have Stat Cards. The screenshot above is from the landscape perspective looking at the default card list. You click one of those buttons and then its respective card will pop up.

This is the portrait layout of the main page. The Armies button doesn't work yet but I'll start on it soon. If someone wants to make me some better buttons, please do it. They are 400 x 80 pixels, but you can make them larger. I'm thinking like 440 x 120 might be about as big as would be okay.

Like I said, when you click on a card it pops up in the middle of your screen. Portrait mode is kind of stupid because it will shrink it a ton, but landscape lets the picture fill your phone screen and makes it easier to read.

This thing isn't ready for release yet, but I think I've made it past all of the harder development parts. I'm learning Android and Java as I go along, so it has been a lot of work just to figure things out, but the page templates are good now so it will be easier to make the army list and add new cards to that section.

This is really cool and your simple design is going to work really well, but I was surprised that you didn't know Java already.

Got the Army section working. The only one right now is the Space Canadians and this is their only card, but now that the template is done it will be easy to add more armies and their respective stat cards.

Maybe later I could add a section for weapon stats or something. The Ice Buggy has them written on the card but other ones don't. If you want a template to make your own stat card, Rayhawk's was pretty good but you can take the Ice Buggy .psd which has been made a little easier to work with.

Most of the cards only exist in 05 versions. The 2010 cards are still getting rejiggered from time to time.

Rather than showing the whole card in portrait mode, you should let it flip between the front and back sides. That'd be pretty useful.

Possible, yes, but I don't know how. For now it would be good if people just post cards they want in it here and I can add them.

Crop image so that you have two images. Make a button that says" Other side." Adjust program.

That would nearly double the filesize of the application. Most of the data that makes it up is the .PNG images of the stat cards.

In Java there is a command that lets you specify a source rectangle when drawing an image.
So it could just be grabbing half of the one you already have.

Or you could just cut the big image in half, 2 images.
Then on the Landscape version show both images.
So its still the same amount of memory.



Related subject:
When doing buttons that have states, you can put all the states in one image, left to right.
Enabled, Disabled, Mouse over, Pressed. Or whichever you want to support.
You would need to make a custom Button class that grabs the correct source rectangle.

Know what people? Portrait mode is stupid anyway. Unless you're holding the phone to your ear to talk to someone it doesn't make any sense. Anyway, I added some more Space Canadian stat cards to this thing today.

This card is a little misleading. If they hold all their gear they cost 15 CP. The Assault Rifle is a normal machine gun but buffed a bit, so it ends up costing extra. I don't think it's as OP as the Assyrian Heavy Laser Rifle.

ECM costs 4CP per level. Per level it is -1 to skill, so level 1 would be 4CP -1 skill, level 3 would be 12CP -3 skill. The skill modifier stacks onto any other modifier that may occur, such as you get a +4 for trying to shoot this thing because it is size 8. Stacked together if someone got hurt by this modifier then their skill bonus would only be plus 2. This obviously doesn't really affect small units, but bigger anti-tank weapons might see some shots missed if this skill gets used. As with the buggy, the cost of the driver and gunner is not included in the final CP total; they have to be purchased separately.



If you have Stat Cards you want featured in this application, post them here and I'll put them in. I need to get the army section populated. Maybe next I can add something for weapon stats.
