The demo was fun at the end, when they finally let me do whatever I wanted to with my men. I got to blow up a pair of aliens that looked like Slenderman with a rocket. Agents can learn special abilities, which is neat.

If you guys can exist on forums that are "sane", there is this thread about the new XCOM, with all kinds of links to gameplay videos and whatnot.

I put "sane" in quotation marks because it tries and fails to exist in a totaly politically correct corner of the internet.

I played the demo this morning. Beauty, that. I'm now super-pumped about the game.

For this - I shall copy over my last facebook status . . .

Code: Select all
Well - fuck, had my first total party kill in Xcom due to a chrysalid swarm knocking out both my heavy and assault in the same turn by jumping off the roof of the building I was taking cover against.

The next six turns where a run and gun by my sniper, support and backup heavy as zombies and chrysalids burst out of every floor, wall and cieling (I lost count at 8 of the bastard things) as we moved back and fired . . Right into three floaters who killed my sniper and blew up the cars we where hidden between, in time for my support to panic and become lunch, while the rest of the swarm ate my heavy alive.

Canada is now a no man's land, burning fire swirls through the sky as nuclear strikes barely keep the chrysalid swarms at bay and the doom countdown creeps ever closer.

Somehow I don't think I've ever had this much FUN in a turn based strategy game. =D

Well mentlegen? What experiences have you had so far?

Meh. Chryssalids don't scare me. You see, in the original XCOM, i had a strategy for Terror missions, where 6 troops would flank the ramp of the skyranger, and then wait until enemies come into view. Took out an entire Snake-man Terror Mission, no Xcom casualties whatsoever.

Sure, but the point of Terror Missions was to prevent them from terrorizing citizens. You could survive with no casualties and still lose funding from the country if the aliens caused enough terror and destruction while you were hanging around at the skyranger.

Besides, it kinda isn't fun unless someone dies a gruesome death.

Yeah. :) I'm going to enjoy the challenge.

I'll get to it. Funds are tight, so I might be getting it as an early birthday gift. Which still means I'll be waiting for it until next month or so.

Yeah, and despite my best efforts my opponent did not deliver the shits and giggles to make the game worthy of being recorded and posted to the forum.

Pay for some decent opposition to get the fook down here Mike!

I see. It does not appear that you have any screenshots from X-Com, for that matter.
