Steam Connection Error
Hey guys, I'm wondering if I'm the only one with this issue and since so many of us around here use Steam I'm hoping to find some help. So far, the Steam Forum has been pretty much useless.
Today when starting up Steam it gave me this error: Steam.exe (main exception): To run Steam, you must first connect to the Internet
Now, it's pretty obvious that I am indeed connected to the Internet. I tried some suggestions I saw on the Official Forum but none worked, including reinstalling Steam and removing all the apps (games). After doing that and launching Steam again, it keeps giving that error and refuses update to even complete the installation.
So, now what? This makes me realize how much dependent we are of freakin' Steam. I even signed up for a Wargame: European Escalation tournament, and if I don't have Steam up and running by the 25th I'll get disqualified, and the prizes are pretty good! Although this is the smallest of my concerns.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Steam Connection Error
Try redoing Steam's firewall permissions. This happened to me once before, and I tried reinstalling everything, but it didn't work until I redid Steam's permissions. I probably could have skipped the reinstalling altogether...

Re: Steam Connection Error
Steam has a history of just breaking for no dang reason. I once had all source games refuse to work for no reason. It fixed its self after a couple of days.
You can try waiting it out, or changing a bunch of permissions, but ultimately you may need to perform a satanic ritual on your computer in order to engage Steam's gate to the underworld protocol.

Re: Steam Connection Error
Actually Nitewatchman, that's actually what happened now.
Last night just a few hours after I made the post, I was about to shutdown my PC. "Heck, why not?". I gave it another go and there. It worked properly again.
Seriously Steam?

Ha! Figures. Glad you got it worked out, though BFenix.
Edit: THIS WAS MY THOUSANDTH POST!
Probably higher than that due to thread deletions, but meh. I'll take what I can get.

Steam is for games, why would it be on a Mac in the first place.Timedude wrote:You think that is frustrating? Try the piece of shit port that is Steam for Mac. Never seen something eat so much CPU so quickly...

Re: Steam Connection Error
Source mods and Dungeons of Dredmor, I would imagine.
Is linux steam that shitty too? Because that would really put a damper on me choosing it for my next OS.
EDIT: What the fuck? Linux steam has only existed for like two weeks?
"The Valve Linux team is proud to announce the launch of a limited access beta for its new Steam for Linux client.
The Steam for Linux Beta client supports the free-to-play game Team Fortress 2. Approximately two dozen additional Steam titles are now also available for play on Ubuntu."
God dammit valve why do you not support the best OS

Re: Steam Connection Error
Indie devs broing it up with steam, steam's freedom from publisher influence leads to AAA games being released for non-microsoft platforms, IT guys are usually into videogames and gamers typically have better computer skills.
I do not like the windows, they are very unstable and it is far to easy for vandals and burglars to get in through them.

Re: Steam Connection Error
Humble Bundles and direct from indie distribution > Steam for both Mac and Linux. UNLESS you want to play Valve games. Then you're just fucked.
