Rocket 01

The successor to Rocket 00, Rocket 01 is larger than its predecessor and has what I expect will be a better engine. Right now its red coat of paint is drying. Once it is dry I'll do a little more decoration and then I will probably launch it tonight, or early tomorrow morning.



The engine module for Rocket 01 is a cardboard cone spool for sewing.




I packed it with the second batch of Rocket Candy fuel that I made today. The first batch went into Rocket 00 for its second launch. Both of the batches of Rocket Candy I made today included corn syrup, unlike the fuel used for Rocket 00's first launch yesterday. Because I'm using a cone I expect better thrust, but I haven't done any mathematical equations or anything.




This is the rocket design. It is longer than its predecessor and the fins are applied more accurately, but overall it is a pretty shoddy rocket made out of cardboard tubes and packaging tape.




I think it will fly better than Rocket 00, so the longer fuselage should help steady its flight.

No luck at all with this one. First engine configuration as seen above didn't produce enough thrust to lift the rocket off the ground. I tried again with the exact opposite configuration... fuel in the cone but pointy end pointing out the back. It launched the rocket, but the engine flew out the back immediately and burned on the ground leaving the rocket to crash only 10 feet from the launch site. A crushing defeat. I need to go to a hobby store and buy an actual rocket engine. or solder one together or something. So far, the soup can was the best thing.

tbh putting money down on pieces for a model rocket is a waste, reusing materials is much more fun anyway, especially when you're stupid enough to make an entire fucking rocket out of flammable material (me btw)

Here's some basic rocket nozzles,

The aerospike design is probably best for low-altitude flight, the de Laval Nozzle would be easiest to build but it was designed for performance in a frictionless environment.

Try a bunch and use whichever works best! No need to reinvent the wheel!
