Good bricks for starting out brikwars

Post by Overwatch_Elite » Wed Dec 26, 2012 11:20 am

Alright so if any of you do happen to know me you know I don't actually do any battling here I just make people mad and post random shit that also makes people mad. I figure I should probably get some wars going or shit.

So I've always collected legos, minifigs and weapons are not a problem. I want to know what kind of bricks I will need, stuff that I can use for scenery like trees or bricks that can be used as explosions (I've seen red bushes used as an example). Cost really isn't an issue for standard bricks such as this but I'd prefer it to be cheapest and have low shipping costs. Thanks in advance!

Are you also going to post battles that make people mad?

Flames are good for helping with explosions. Palm trees are also good scenery because they are easy to blow up. Get some plain baseplates, some tan or green plates for sand dunes or grassy hills, and bricks that are 1 thick maybe 6 or 8 long, those can be used to build ruined buildings. Tan or grey or white are best for building ruins.

I just buy a ton of light gray bricks (usually 1 x 6) and build them into walls 5 bricks high. This is high enough to act as a good wall and fully conceal a minifig, but if you want to add a roof or a door somewhere I would make it 6 high, as most newer door frames are this height. Also, try to add some additional texture to your walls to make them look nice; the majority of mine suffer from Big Gray Wall Syndrome and so they are useful and cheap but look ugly.

For an average house, I usually take a 16 x 16 baseplate, add a door (usually one of the Harry Potter/Castle door frames), put in a couple windows, build a 5 or 6 brick high wall all around, and seal it all together at the top with a layer of plates or bricks. Windows and doors can help by taking up space and saving bricks. I have made about 6 houses using this method. They are rather bland, but work well.

You can do what I do and just use your old bulk Mega-blocks...

...Or you can be an elitist like Mike and use Duplo blocks to make up the bulk of your scenery.

6. Flames for fire
7. Red Transparent or Red bricks for blood
8. Clear bar pieces for flying things
9. Red Bushes and Orange Transparent rocks for explosions

Pretty much everything and anything you can get your hands on.

flip over some bowls and coffee mugs onto your table, then dump a mess of Jenga bricks on top of the whole thing. Scenery doesn't necessarily need to be LEGO, so go hunting around your house for crap tall enough for a minifig to hide behind.

In addition to what people have suggested....

Lots of green and brown for dirt / grass.
Road base plates are nice for urban settings.
We often use those big elevated base plates like that which came with the city police station, pyramid, and various castles. They quickly add a lot of vertical diversity with out using bricks and can be made into epic forts of osum.

If you are near a Lego store with a Pick-a-Brick wall then stop by once a month. Sometimes you get lucky and they have a bin full of trees, plants, flowers, palms, and sometimes stuff that is expensive to get in bulk. You have to be vigilant though and not ready to pull the trigger when you go. Because several times I hesitated, came back a day later, and they were completely out. This happens with things that aren't commonly found on the wall. For example they always have 2x4 bricks but if there is a bin of bamboo plants it will be gone in a day or two and you don't know when, or if, it will be restocked.

Raised baseplates work well. I have 2 from King Leo's Castle and I think I've used them in almost every battle I've done.
