Very cool and interesting. Metal is in every country in the world pretty much. In many places like in the Middle East it serves as a form of rebellion against the oppressive religion, while in places like South America, it serves as a change of pace from the traditional latin music that comes from there.

It is interesting to take a look at the few successful countries in Africa and see why they have been so successful. Ethiopia, Botswana, and South Africa in my eyes are 3 of those. Ethiopia has been successful because of its long history of contact with Europeans going back to before the year 1000, Botswana has been successful mainly because of diamond mining amongst other things, and South Africa has been successful because of its early contact with the Dutch and later rule by the British. I'm sure that all 3 have had their fair share of problems and probably still do, but the same note that rings in the 3 countries is stability. There have been no major civil wars or military coups that have decimated those regions like they have all over other parts of Africa, and that may be the key to their prosperity.

Man that's some eloquent shit. I think metal is able to do a lot of things. It's able to invoke patriotism and criticize the government at the same time, it's able to pay homage to soldiers and legends of old and tell stories about giant tanks that cause thousands of widows to cry with grief.

"Also, many metalheads in Botswana are cowboys from the villages and farms, so they mix the cowboy image with a biker metal look. Many wear hunting knives and parts of dead animals. We drink from the hollowed-out cow horns."
