So there comes for all of us a time, a time in our enjoyment of our game, where we are running out of things to do. So we find ways to amuse ourselves, and I figured, why shouldn't you be amused too?
My name is Daniel Greene.
The first thing I noticed was the smell. The pungent, unmistakable aroma of urine hit me right in the face, like every public restroom I'd ever been in put together. I grabbed the bench in front of me and lifted myself up. The place looked like some kind of emergency shelter- Six benches facing counters equipped with some kind of computer. They reminded me of arcade machines, everything built into a big metal body that couldn't be lifted away and stolen.
I stumbled over to the nearest window, and saw a road stretch out before me, through a flat, grassy meadow. Red flowers were scattered about it, drawing my eye with their striking color and size. I couldn't hear any birds, although the hue of the sky assured me that it was morning. It must have been the shelter blocking out the noise- the walls were concrete, and the windows were three inches thick, made of plastic instead of glass.
It was then I realized I was utterly naked. Hoping for some kind of explanation, I walked over to the computer, eyeing the large FALLOUT SHELTER sign over the stairs that loomed, ominously, in the middle of the room.
Jesus Christ! How long had I been here? The last thing I remembered was coming home from an all-nighter at work; we were nearly finished putting together the alpha for what we all hoped would be the game that would finally put us at the map- Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. We'd run into some trouble getting the launcher to run on Windows Te-
No, that didn't matter right now. I needed to get into that basement, and *do* something before I died!
It was dark. A little bit of light came in through from above, and I could just barely see the walls. The room was made of concrete, and it wasn't much larger than a bedroom. I felt my way around, feeling the walls. I found what felt like a light fixture, made of ribbed plastic instead of concrete. Why wasn't it on? Where were the gas masks? How did I get here?
As I pondered these questions, the universe decided to answer me. Suddenly I felt something come up under the ball of my foot, something round and hard, and I fell over.
I held it up to what little light came through the stairwell and realized it was a battery. Someone must have left it here, I supposed. I stumbled back over to the stairs and pressed the little button on the battery's side- the tiny E-Ink display dimly read: 100%.
I wasn't going to get anything done in that basement, so I got out. The road looked tempting, but was it really safe? A biological attack would target population centers... And if they were fine? What would they think, having an unshaven, greasy-haired naked man running straight at them? I looked around, and saw what looked like the roof of a massive house off in the distance. Surely, it would make more sense to talk to someone like that first? Someone who clearly had a little wealth to spare, and could loan me some clothes, tell me what in God's name was going on, and let me use their phone?
I approached the house, and a man looked back at me though the huge, floor-to-ceiling windows. He was wearing leather pants and a tattered sweatshirt with some college's logo on it. I tried to look as pitiful and harmless as I could, and approached him, yelling "Hey buddy, could you help me out here?"
His response was... unexpected.
He crashed through the window with a guttural roar, and behind him came someone who looked like he could be a relative, another man wearing equally ripped shorts and a T-shirt.
They looked sick, the both of them, like those before and after pictures of meth addicts. I pleaded with them to "Be cool, guys, be cool!", but they kept coming. I... I didn't know what to do, okay!?
So uh... I did what came naturally.
A girl in a short skirt and white tank top came at me from the depths of the mansion, crashing through the other, then-unbroken window.
Suddenly, it was over. I had run through the field, picking up rocks and throwing them at the... junkies that lunged at me. Sometimes they got close, then I put some shrubs between me and them and smashed them in the head when they got stuck... But I didn't come out of it without a scratch.
For a very long, long second, I thought about what I would do now that I had murdered not one but three of these people. I mean, they were in a mansion, probably the kids of the guy who owned it, and they were so young... then the practical side of my head kicked in.
I needed clothes. They had them. The guy with the leather pants had a steak knife jammed into the back of his calf- I can't even imagine how hopped-up he had to be to ignore that. But since it could come in handy, and I didn't know what was in that mansion, I yanked it out.
At least I had pockets to put the batteries in. The corpses, I just left there, bleeding in the dirt. I couldn't just keep things like that, of course, but... I didn't want to deal with it right away.
I pushed against the massive doors, and they both swung open. Why had they smashed the windows?
Well that was fun! Feel free to make suggestions in the thread, obviously Daniel is going to check out the mansion next update, but there's still the question of what to do with the corpses- and the clothing he's wearing. Would you really want to put a zombie's clothes on? What about the bites and scratches he now has? And it can't be safe to just leave the bodies lying about, right?
You guys think about that while I set up the next update, these things require a surprising amount of editing and then there's the hassle with image hosting...

Re: Cataclysm LP
No Cataclysm DDA ? It's much better. Smash the benches for sticks and shelfs for pipes, they're ok weapons.

Re: Cataclysm LP
It IS cataclysm DDA, I abandoned the LP because my characters suffer too much from get-bored-and-suicide-itis.
