Could be a Roc from the Arabian Nights. Something like this:

Without a doubt, that "hump" is a very large muscle used for it's jaws, which would have to be equally large. I estimate that it is about the size of the Roc shown above.

"This may be a fight we cannot win. If we must attack it we will, but I suggest avoiding this bout if we can. Let's see if it will fly off." Despite this, I grip my crossbow tightly.

You stay hidden and observe as the creature comes closer, and you see what it is.

On its back sits a goblin (not shown in picture). It is still too far away for a bow shot, but if it continues on its current course it will pass near you.

I think maybe we should sit completely silently, with our bows ready.

Adarim
Hide and lie in wait. Prepare to hit the goblin as it comes into range. Aim for the shoulder, in hopes of knocking the goblin off without killing it. If it survives the fall, then we can interrogate it. Surely if it breaks some bones in the fall it will be more talkative.

I agree with IV, I prepare my magic missile for if it notices us, and hide next to/under Logan, also, did beastiary class mention anything like this, or was I too drunk for any of that?
Also, that's the scariest duck I've ever seen.

Nisos rolled Int 1+16

The beastiary classes are a complete blur in Nisos' mind.

The monstrosity and its rider comes closer and closer. Adarim peeks out cover, takes aim, and looses his arrow.

Rolled Ranged 2+1 vs. AC

The arrow flies past the goblin's face. Startled, it turns and spots Adarim.

"Snata!"

When Adarim shoots, Saucix, Gerald launch their projectiles as well, aiming for the flying horror.

Saucix rolled Ranged 9+2 vs. AC

Saucix' arrow flies too low.

Gerald rolled Ranged 17+1, rolled 10 damage

The crossbow bolt hits the beast right in the heart. With a shrill scream it crashes to the ground, pink blood pumps out. The goblin is thrown off and tumbles across the snow, then sits up groggily.

Nisos almost threw his magic missile, but saw it wasn't necessary.

I have an IRL group running around in the world now as well. They are a bit ahead of you chronologically. Please do not blow up Eisgir or kill Mother Salvegard within the next 7 days because that would cause inconsistencies.

While the others secure the pilot, examine the corpse, see if that helps anything, take notes (mental if needed) for future reference.

Gerald punches the goblin in the face.

Rolled 7+2+4 (nonlethal bonus, goblin disoriented) vs. AC

The goblin drops, unconscious.

Nisos looks over the corpse of the flying beast. It is covered in thin fur, suggesting it to be a mammal. The beak and the tentacles beg to differ, of course. Otherwise he notices nothing special about the corpse.

About time I got some good rolls. Suddenly I am kicking ass.

"Well? It's alive. Now what?"
