Attacking a minifig pilot in a vehicle/horse

Post by rhk » Thu Jan 08, 2009 10:32 pm

Wondering how to take account of enemy figs attacking your pilot. Would the minifig have any armor bonus (from the vehicle)? Would it make any difference if the pilot is on top vs. inside the vehicle? Otherwise it seems that the pilot would normally be easier to target and knock out rather than attack the vehicle.

if on top unprotected I add 1 armour for having to aim at him, but if protected add anywhere from 2-5 depending on the type of windshield or size of a small seeing hole in armour.

The pilot of a vehicle may not be any more armored than a regular minifig, but he's usually a hell of a lot harder to hit. Most cockpits offer at least some kind of cover to protect the pilot, so the area you'd have to hit would be very small (and that's BEFORE taking into account penalties for moving at high speeds).

Some people add armor from windshields, but it's usually not much. 2001 rules had armor ratings for regular and bullet-proof glass, if you want to go check it out.

If you bust the cockpit off before you start shooting at the pilot, he should just be counted as a regular minifig, no armor, since his cover is blown.

If what AmmoMan said happened in space, you didn't even need to shoot the pilot after the cockpit glass broke.

Exactly! Explosive decompression. However, space fighter cockpits tend to have high armor ratings, due to that reason.

Plus, star pilots tend to be wearing already-sealed self-supportable space suits, so explosive decom isn't nearly as fun as some dimmies tend to think.

Assuming that the pilot is behind some sort of windshield, shouldn't the attacker have to attack the windshield for component damage?

Of course, if said windshield only covered part of the minifig, then you could just attack them with a negative skill boost . . .

As if we care. More explosives!

if you can see through it to target the minifig, you can target the Minifig. Treat the glass as if it were armor.

depends if they are in a control room at the heart of a beast of a machine i put it as they have to get though the layers of armor before they can
when a wind sheid its shot the windsheild off then shot him or if overkill shot though screen and kill him.
i normally aim for tyres or fuel tanks (hehe bang gose the fuel)
or if its heavyly armord with no tyres or outside tanks i just shot the weak spots if it has them.

All my none-mech vehicles are transformers anyway, so it doesn't matter if you kill the pilot, Mega Coopa will crush you!

Because it hasn't been mentioned as well:

A minifig in a cockpit or on a horse may have less of his body visible. This doesn't make him have more armor, but it does put up the Use Rating to hit him.
