Well i have, after reading all the comments, come up with an easy solution that I feel emphasises Brikwars carnage. Bring a weapon. don't be a brikwussie. Quite brilliant, actually.
but in the case of not having a gun, he screams in frusturation and blows up, spraying acid-blood over his enemies.

I know I'm necroing but this topic should stay alive, besides I'm using a heroic feat. personally I think that if a minifig is towering over another one the one who is about to be axed would be moving to suffer the most hilariously painful death possible instead of trying to fight back but if your minifig's a sissy he could punch which is punching someone once, this may give them a bloody nose but minifigs don't have them so it is futile. If your minifig is a hero who could incap an enemy in one punch then why is he punching instead of using the attacking minifig in a joust with the nearest wall

Well, if you have a Terminator type hero, he could punch through the dude and tear his heart out. Or if you had a vampire guy. Or a barbarian.

Spider-man! You know, guy who can punch and kill you if he felt like it.

Of course I just give him all those close combat abilities and count his hands as weapons, because spider-man should never use a gun.

Katanas suck! Yes, they look kickass, but they're not. A longsword is much better.

Katanas can only be used for slashing. A longsword can skewer, hack, etc. A katana is also unable to parry as heavy attacks as a longsword can without breaking.

Useful tip for those of us who have lots of broken mini-fig hands: Fit them onto your ninja/kung-fu warriors. They make it look like he's doing a chop.

Katanas don't kill you as often when they break. They're made to sphincter into the enemy when they break.

yes you only use katana's for slashing, and only with the few inches at the end of the thing too.
