Rule 6: Numbered lists can start on 6 if they want to.
This makes it look like it's part of a bigger list, which is useful if you want people to think you've done more work than you actually have.
Rule 7: If a thread goes off topic, it's not the fault of the poster, it's the fault of the topic for not being interesting enough.
Current and former members of the Dimmy faction will always come along and disrupt your civilized and carefully-typed conversations; that's their role. If your topic has any life left in it, the thread will get back around to it eventually. If you really love something, sometimes you have to let it go. Or let a bunch Dimmies brutally violate and mutilate it, or something.
Rule 8: Arguing in internet forums makes you look stupid.
Everyone knows this, and everyone does it anyway. If two jerks waste a page arguing about which one is the bigger jerk, it doesn't matter who "wins," everyone else just knows they're both a pair of jerks.
- Rule 8(a): Being a jerk is funny sometimes.
Despite rule #8, go ahead and argue sometimes, because it's funny. Just don't think you'll get away with acting all superior afterwards, because we all know you're a jerk.
