You need to add ion cannons. they should do something like make a ship lose it's next turn but the cannon would have prep 1 or something.

We've been discussing it. haven't came to a conclusion yet.

The problem is, to make ion cannons worthwhile you would need some sort of incentive to use them, over a weapon that permanently destroys an enemy ship. You could allow fighters to carry them, so a squad of fighters would be able to disable a capital ship for a turn even if they couldn't kill it.

It would be good to use at the start of a game. disablement is enough of an incentive for me.

EDIT: Just remembered, could you please make some sort of points system to make fleets fair? such as fighters are 1 point, frigates are 3... something like that.

both players have to agree on the size of the fleets, so a point system wouldn't be needed. Good idea though.

but it's difficult if one player has fighters in a cruiser's cargo bay and the other player has his fighters in a carrier. If you say" Ok, let's have 1 destroyer, 2 cruisers, 2 frigates and x number of fighters" What if one player keeps all of his fighters in a carrier? then both players have to have fighters/bombers in carriers and some people just don't do that.

these are the standard rules used for all the space battles in the forum battles section of these forums right?

A carrier is equal to a cruiser in size so you could replace 1 cruiser with a carrier.

How do you do engines for missile barges, carriers and freighters? Are they included in the engine/class thingy or what?

Does the frieghter get unlimited missiles? Do you have to buy them?

can fighters from one ship split into two squads?

Actually with our new 3 Class system I came up with we have a good chance to make the engines all standard. We just haven't agreed on a good base number yet...

And a carrier would be equal to a Missile Barge or a Destroyer (as they are all capital ships)

to play a forum war you don't really need to know the rules.

shouldent a cruiser be bigger than a destroyer?

EDIT:i just found this:
"Any ship without an engine still manages to propel itself, but only 1" per turn."
how? dose the crew stick fans out the windows to try to blow it along?
i think thease should just be given a default engine.

These are the "standard" rules for Brikspace, but not all battles in the forum use these rules. Mine didn't, and I'm going to continue to use my own rule set in the future.

No, for the last freaking time.

And as for the default engine rule, read my above post and you can see that we are still working on it.
