Ranks

Post by dcl32 » Thu Sep 03, 2009 2:15 pm

How about ranks or something? Not like the U.S. Military with private, private e2, private first class, corporal, etc.
Something simple Like just private corporal, sergeant, Warrant officer, lieutenant, captain, or something, when promoted you get certain bonuses or something, I don't know tell me what you guys think, just an idea.

6. What?
7. You mean, for forum members?
8. If so, I think it is unnecessary.
9. Also if so, wrong forum.

I interpreted that as addressing the forum members. My mistake.

So, ranks for the figs. Well we already have Minifig (Private), Officer (Sergeant - Lieutenant) and Hero (Captain and above). I don't really think other ranks are needed.

Some kind of elite trooper would be nice though. 2001 already has Shock Troopers/Amazons, and the 2005 rules have Ninjas, but they're just CC specialists and I'm thinking more of a versatile commando type unit. I suppose that Silent-Sigfig's heavy trooper would work in this role.

True, but that only really applies if all you want the special unit to do is cary heavy weapons.

What it really depends on is what you want that unit to be able to do.

maybe if you where doing very small squads and you where playing a role-playing oriented version of brikwars this could be somewhat of a usefull thing. otherwise it's just to complicated (much like hitpoints)

Any other Brits remember or know of the children's show Captain Pugwash. It had Able Seaman Stains and Master Bates as two of the crew.

I think being able to promote minifigs would be cool. for example if a minifig manages to kill an entire enemy squad rambo-style, he can be promoted for a dice-upgrade (like d6 to d8 )
Im not sure whether or not to upgrade all stats or only the stats he used for the promotion, like a fig that takes a ton of enemy fire and survives to kick their asses would get a bonus to his AV, or a fig with a rifle that shoots the exposed head of an enemy hero would get a bonus to his RC skill, or a fig that manages to outrun the enemy with a captured flag would get a bonus to his move.

IMHO, a minifig doing something awesome is cooler than a hero doing it, as a hero is expected to do it, while the fig would really be against the odds . . .
