2001 rules had them all crushed to death.

and looking at your tank's armor/carrying capacity and whatnot, i'm classifying it as a heavy APC. armor's thicker than a regular APC, so this thing looks like it's able to take a beating, but i wouldn't feel right calling this a tank.

Really, now? I figured a tank was anything large, heavily armored and treaded with one/many large guns attached. I would almost definitely call this a tank. I'd call it a tank if it had 1d10 Armor. I think it's the gun that does it for me there, and the treads.

That's just my two cents, though. You think whatever floats your boat.

well despite its comparative size I like the atv the best because of the explosives and speed. get like 5 of thouse in different colours and a hallway littered with old clothes and dvds and you've got yourself a realy nice game going.

I'd have to side with the "it's a tank" argument, and Atomsk, you into building massive war machines as well? Remind me to post my mecha or land ships sometime (something about ONE unit costing the same as an entire medival army and castle just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside).

I would be into building them if 90% of my collection wasn't in California...

to be classified as a tank, a vehicle must fit the following criteria:

1. treads + heavy armor
2. 360 degree rotating turret
3. closed cockpit

the sand puma has all of these but a closed cockpit (glass windows don't count). therefore, it technically ain't a tank.

EXAMPLE: This is not a tank.

it may have a closed cockpit, treads, and armor, but that main gun faces front. instead, the StuG IV is a german assault gun.

I would still call it a tank.
Why put all of that effort into making a vehicle that is not "technicaly" a tank,
but nearly everyone still recognizes as such?
Act first, then think, then try to find a way to cover up the horrible mess you made.

It's not necessarily glass there... it could be anything from plastic wrap to reinforced bullet-proof fiberglass. Not just glass, though. I wouldn't put glass on a combat vehicle at all. People do, and I don't know why, but especially something like the Sand Puma, which would be a main target for me because of that killer turret on top. So, no, no normal glass.

Well its not a tank because it can't technically move & fight a self propelled gun or assualt gun generally is used in support / defense roles and is cheaper and easier to manuafacture an easier to maintain

A friend of mine owns a chieftian MBT (got to ride on the hull) an the turret broke during the course of that day)

So I agree with IVHorseman

Alright it's not a tank but, what should we call it then? Also the windscreen thing is really 4 inches of heavely reinforced bullet-proof fiberglass. :D

Heavy APC. it's primary role is getting troops behind enemy lines, and that thick armor and gatling gun make damn sure this happens.

I would consider Matt's other vehicle to be a Heavy APC, and this a Light Attack Vehicle. I know the treads made it look big, but it has a small footprint. It's just tall. Like all the 2006+ model year small-sized sedans. They have the same frame as the old ones, but you've got an extra 8 inches of headroom.
