Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a short vowel in "odd" and a long vowel in "applaud"?

The way I pronounce it is

odd = audd

applaud = applaawd

Maybe it's a difference only Swedes can hear?
In English they're identical, the rhyme is quite clear.
Odd and applaud rhyme with plod, nod, and sod;
none of this awd, aud, or öwod, by God.
