The water of the river seemed like the only calm thing on the battlefield.

That changed when two small gateways appeared, and petite maelstroms appeared in the water, as if things were making it to the surface.

And, as two richly garbed and well-armed warlords stepped out from between the gates, savage men indeed began to rise from the water.

More appeared.

And more. Holy crap! There was a whole horde of them!
Water demons have entered play

Their leader Fishstache addressed the whole troop when it was assembled. The men (?) roared as if they were already celebrating a victory, but his deep voice still boomed over the noise.

Fishstache: "Alright men, you've done this before! Hack and slash for all you're worth! What waters know not our blood? Today, this world will get to know us!"

Like the trained war machine they were they quickly formed up in an arched formation, where the melee troops protected the many ranged warriors they had.

As the water demons started moving across the river - they were seemingly able to walk over water unbothered by it - crossbowmen let their bolts fly, proving their outright hostility.

An imperial swordsman, caught off guard, was saved by the small shield the Purple Mage had casted.

Others took aim at the Kerratians, the faction nearest to them.

Arrows hit home despite the knight's defences, but didn't manage to penetrate their tough armour.
