The Icons started chanting together. Soon the whole army recognized the chant and many joined in as they fought.
'Spit out by fate
We do what we do best'

The left flank finished off the sergeant's last men, but the sergeant managed to wound the Heavy in the struggle.
'You may not be impressed
But we couldn't care less'

The bullbeast must have had too much to drink. It tried to drag its chain across the horses' kneecaps but missed.
'Fight! Fight! Fight!'

The phalanx missed but avoided being killed by the counter.
'We hunger, we lust
We like the color and smell'

The Bodyguard's armour held out against the warlord's strike, but her counter missed him.
'We spray it we must
We'll taste it and offer yours!'

The other Bodyguard just barely managed to get her sword in the way of the heavy's murderous strike and thus avoided being crushed by it, but still took a hit.
Blood! Blood! Blood!

'It spreads where we go
On our axes it is'

The axemen rushed to defend the crossbowmen from the new threat they didn't know nor understood: but it was a pretty good guess that driving their axes in it would make it stop.
'Our ally and foe
Which we fright with honor
Death! Death! Death!'

They missed but at least managed to catch the Crocthulu's attention, which started gnawing at one of the axemen but failed to kill him.
'We are what you detest
We go where you want us least'

The crossbowmen loosed another volley.
'War is our unholy quest
On your lands we shall feast'

Most messed up, but they at least managed to kill off the Furbeast's chieftain Chewblaccand.
'Bull! Bull! Bull!'
Dwellers

A furbeast (they may fight hand to hand) and a rider attacked the icon, but failed to kill it.

Miranda then decided to finish the creature before her men got into more trouble, but failed as well.

The spear carrier grasped his axe firmly and heroically charged the much more powerful bullbeast...

... but perhaps shouldn't have closed his eyes. He missed, but the bullbeast's counter missed yet again. A furbeast rushed in to aid him.

The healer tried to help out the Bodyguard that was in trouble but his spear couldn't penetrate the heavy's thick armour.
Imperials

Cales jumped from his horse and let it run on...

It trampled a surprised crossbowman into the river.

The warlord knew Cales was a famed swordsman and the toll would be high if his men had to take him down.
Warlord: "Cales! Stop hiding behind fragile girls and fight me!"

Cales: "Fine, but it'll be your fault if you get hurt!"

Warlord: "You must have more in you than this, Cales!"

The fight between both elite forces continued. They didn't manage to dent each other any further yet.

Except for the standard bearer, who killed the last of the phalanx.

Possession does strange things to the mind: the artillery man loaded his dead fellow into the cannon, which were turned towards the approaching water demons now. Sharlena once again tried to enchant the cannons, but failed.

Both missed barely, but Nearmiss allowed the attack to hit Blackpants instead. A horrendously low damage roll allowed the tough old warrior to survive without damage, but he was still blasted back over the river.

Blackpants was bound to wake up from a terrible hangover. The first thing he'd wonder would probably be why he was covered in body parts and gore that wasn't his own.
Undead Vanguard

The bitchy witch fragged one of the axethrowers who had been audacious enough to attack from behind. The skeleton missed the mark as usual.

They then moved out together with the rest of the undead. The necromancess felt twharthed when she once again failed to raise a corpse.

Hey, what's this? The necromancer's luck had finally run out: His invisibility spell failed him for the first time since he had started to move out. Still, the distance he had managed to cross unnoticed was considerable. He'd have to catch his breath for a bit before he went on casting spells though (no heroic feat next turn).

The shadows as if programmed immediately took up defensive positions.

A cannonier got a fistful of arrow from the sniper. They'd have trouble managing both cannons effectively with only two guys.

The lot of them then hurried over to the ruins. They had nearly entered them!
Knights of Kerrat

Skaie moved over to Lord Wrynn's lifeless corpse. Well, half of it. He eyed his equipment.

Skaie: "Ooh, nice cape..."

Lord Skaie was born!

He joined up with the last few Knights of Kerrat: Sir Garth and the Lancier Lieutenant. From afar, they could see the undead on the verge of entering the ruins.

Ah yes, the Impaler's banner carrier was still alive as well. But he was lagging behind, and, taking into account the current situation, the Knights couldn't really waste time picking up stragglers.
Water demons

The swordsmen broke formation as they rushed the cannons: some sprinted faster than others.

The last axe thrower scaled the tower.

He tried to get at the healer, but his axe didn't do enough damage.

Fat Olaf leapt from his Crocthulu heroically and landed on the back of Cales' horse.

Speaking of which, the Crocthulu finally managed to devour something on its third go.

Fat Olaf was pretty sure his pet could take care of itself. He grabbed a lance and charged the last ranger, impaling him and knocking him off his horse.

Fat Olaf did fall from his horse, which crashed into the Kaadu, knocking both out. He was alive but Disrupted.

Blackpants got up and scratched his helmet. Damned cannons. Need kill!

So furious he was that he forgot his weapon as he rushed the nearest enemy, the banner carrier. Blackpants was smart and experienced enough a Brikwarrior to stay out of his line of sight to avoid reaction fire.

Bam! The officer displayed another of the water demon's strengths apart from the ability to move through water: they could always use the central horn on their helmet in charge attacks.

Succes! But the few remaining water demons still had their work cut out for them not to fail on this day and they knew it.
The Pumpkin

The Pumpkin changed his mind again and now charged off towards the undead. He still didn't get far enough to attack and the only question was whether or not he would be off again before he could start fighting the Shadows.
