Before I begin I want to say I know that the chariots are terrible, absolutly terrible but they get the job done. The field is about 3 feet long so at max speed a chariot would be able to cross in 4 turns.

First is the contestants:
Left - Human - Axe, 2 one-shot crossbows - Horses w/ axes and spikes
Middle - Wookie and Ewok - Axe, spear, sword, dagger, crossbow, 2 grappleing hooks - Horses w/ axes
Right - Skeleton - sword, 2 spears, chain mace - Skeleton horses w/ axe

The Battle Field: (Unfortunately no spectators)
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?I=3347263

Turn 1:
Human picks up crossbow
Ewok 1 jumps to human chariot and fails
Skeleton throws chain mace into Wookie wheel (lucky shot)
Skeleton Horse hits Wookie horse and clashes
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?I=3347265

Turn 2:
Human fires at S. Horse and does nothing
Wookie is speared by Skeleton (there goes the leader...)
Ewok 1 jumps back onto chariot
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?I=3347268

Turn 3:
Human is rammed off of chariot
wookie chariot breaks in two (due to unsable wheels)
S. Horse rammes and kills human horse
Ewok 2 grabs sword and jumps onto Skeleton chariot
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?I=3347270

Turn 4:
Human picks up fallen axe and slays wookie horse (ownage)
then is thrown back from being hit by horse
Ewok 1 throws spear and misses (fail)
Ewok 2 is still engaged w/ skeleton (still?)
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?I=3347272

Turn 5:
Human picks up crossbow and shoots Ewok 2 but doesn't kill
Ewok 1 picks up knife and rushes human
Ewok 2 kills skeleton (How???)
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?I=3347276

Final Turn:
Wookie/Ewok Team are the winners!
Human and Ewok 1 still fighting
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?I=3347281

Final Carnage:

Ok, wookie/ewoks win
questions, comments, advice, criticism

omg, a sweet chariot death race! Yay winner! We need to learn from this: always make your favorite combatant phail getting into his chariot at the beginning so he wins in the end! I like the skeleton's chariot the most for some reason.. :? anyway my only critique would be could you resize the images more before you upload them to Bs?

yea that is quite big and all the pix took a little long to load fully.
other than that I thought that was very entertaining :)

is it possible to resize them without
taking them off, resizing them, putting them back on, and redoing the links?

This is a really sweet idea! I wonder how a sci-fi version would look while still retaining the whole chariot theme. Maybe the old fashoined three wheeler bikes with a hitch in the back for a turretman? Or a Custom Speederbike race?

Pod-racing. in all seriousness, it was designed with exactly that thought in mind.

Yeah, I love how heavily Lucas drew on classic story elements that have been around for such a long time.

There are several allusions (not sure if that's the right word here or not) to the old Errol Flynn pirate movies. Episode II even has a shot where two ships pull up side by side and blast each other with their cannons. Luke and Leia swinging across a chasm on a cable (rope) anyone?!

And the Laurel and Hardy/Abbot and Costello match-up of R2-D2 and C-3PO. One is tall, skinny, and plays the straight man... the other short, fat, and the always says something funny (even if it is beeps and boops).

Even the twists and turns in the script are borrowed right out of Greek literature (and thusly our friend, Billy Shakes).

there's also that old norwegian tale where this nine year old successfully seduces the 14 year old queen of another nation, and then meets up ten years later to swap cheesy "my love for you is like a river of lovely, loving love"s, but then he goes nuts and kills her.

.... oh. right. nevermind.

The basic idea was a 5/5. I was thinking maybe you should have added more obstacles to dodge around, but that would have made it harder for people to jump between chariots and kill the drivers hand-to-hand. That was definitely my favorite part of the battle.

Awesome battle, but I have a suggestion.

You need explosives. You should include a mine field.
