A bottleneck is an area in the battlefield where there are walls on two sides of a small area with bigger areas leading into the enclosed area. The advantage of these is mostly for cc combatants, because if a small force is chased through a bottleneck by a larger force, then the small force turns around to fight. Then only a few units of the larger forces army can fight at one time due to the limited space. Thus the smaller army can over time defeat the larger army as long as it's dice rolls remain better.

It is also possible to have a "vertical bottleneck", whereby a landmass such as a wall or a steeply sloped hill impedes a large army from climbing up and over to face a smaller one. As long as the defenders keep out of reach of the army on the ground, they can safely massacre any would-be attackers stupid enough to actually make it all the way over said ledge. This has been used to good effect several times in repelling vast armies of Negaverse invaders by several different forces.
