A critical failure happens when "the humans" roll a "one" on a "dice". When a a critical failure happens every thing goes topsy-turvy. Guns explode in the minifig's hand, heroes cut off their own hands, pyromaniacs pyronite tanks explode, etc. Critical failures go along with Murphy's Law - If anything can go wrong, it will.
