i have all of these except for left 4 dead (i really should get it though; i've been satisfied with ZS maps in gmod until now). Valve should have completely redone hl:s though.

You also could have said "Source engine? anyone?" for all but HL1

and as for HL:S, the official one is just the textures from old-school HL1 drag and dropped into the source engine. The unofficial but awesome version of this has been "under development" for a while now.

while we're on this topic, could anyone give me a step-by-step walkthrough on adding mods to garry's mod? i'm having a lot of trouble with it. I download the mod (in .zip format) and extract it to the appropriate folders, but when i open up gmod, it's not there. and i've already made sure that the mods are intended for gmod 10, so that's not a problem.

No, they should have made the original game "Left 2 Die" and then had that just be awesome two-player. THEN, the sequel would be Left 4 Dead.
