Finances
Hey fellow oldies. How do you manage your lego spending? I was talking with my gf about our finances and she thinks I can't spend too much on lego because we need to save for our future. How much would you guys say you spend a month on lego? How much do you save every month? etc?

Re: Finances
I was buying some back in 2008 and 2009.
But then the architectural business took an economic depression to the knee.
So I've been losing money out of my savings since then, so I stopped buying Lego.
I still buy some computer games, but not as many as I used to.
If you can save several thousand dollars a year, you can spend several hundred on a hobby.
But what does a hobby mean?
It probably should include all discretionary spending.
Drinking
Drugs
Maybe clothes if you buy lots of them
Games
Lego

Re: Finances
I've also stopped buying Lego. The last two sets I got were the smallest sets and they were gifts. Even when I was buying, though, I couldn't afford to go nuts. I never bought big sets unless they were on clearance somewhere. I wouldn't say I had a monthly budget. In an ideal world, I'd be filthy rich and I'd buy multiples of every theme I liked. If I ever get back to Lego spending, I'm sure I could come up with a monthly budget but I'm also sure that it would be shared.
Anyway, it's hard to say without knowing what your income/expenses look like. And what your gf thinks is a reasonable amount. Because, let's face it, that's the far more important consideration.

I've portioned out a sort of allowence each month with the fiancé. We each get about 50 to spend on whatever. Sometimes I spend it on Lego, usually I spend it on alcohol
Edit: this is outside of our budget and after savings. We do have an alcohol budgets as well, but it's sometimes not enough

Re: Finances
Sounds reasonable. My expenses are less than $100 a month and I usually save 90% of my paycheck in the bank. The remaining $150 i have goes towards food and the occasional lego. So i'm on par with you dudes, I guess.

Re: Finances
100 a month? Wow. That's awesome. You staying in a coffin hotel or something?
If you've 150 disposable a month, 20-30 on Lego, provided it's your major hobby doesn't sound bad. But what do I know. See first line as evidence of my total ignorance of what it's like to financially to live in China.

I don't pay rent so all my expenses are food related. My electricity bill is like $30 for 2 months. I have a 3 bedroom apartment.

I don't have to pay for my rent or utilities either! Right now it is all wedding, savings, food, beer, and LEGO

At 15 a month for electricity? Yeah, no doubt. I can't get my bill below 150 a month. Do you have some kind of deal worked out with your employers or something?
