It is quiet...
Aside from the sounds of the local megafauna's lumbering, that is.
This defense was abandoned long ago when the planet was taken. All manner of supplies await.
In the center of the defense is a wood bunker with a very special computer terminal.
"Yes, command, we are close to the target," the Officer of a squad of Gray Wolves barks, "My men are ready to retrieve."
The terminal isn't far away, now.
Nearby the familiar glow of teleportation begins to thrum.
"Copy that, Wolves, we've also sent you some help. Looks like there's trouble nearby, stay alert," comes the reply from the command ship.
The squad of Lunar Infantry wasn't dropped in a great spot.
Inside the wall comes the shuffle of boots.
"Quiet!" the Officer barks."
The secret troops of the Imperial Magikstrate have seen this view for miles. What are they doing here?
"Need some help?" comes a friendly voice. Some specialists from Minaglacia have arrived.
"Just you guys? Where's the rest?" the Lunar Officer demands.
"I don't know, I heard 12 of us were ordered recently."
They gaze onto the field.
"Hurry!" a Neo-Prussian whispers, looking back over his shoulder nervously.
What mission could they be on?
Perhaps the Neo-Prussians were running from something...
It's Brootalz!!
Led by Sawtooth, they dash down the line.
A strange scuttling is seen from one of the bunkers............
THE ONLY Overwatch YOU WILL SEE!!!!!!
*POOF*
"Wait... how did I... get here?" the popcorn man mumbles.

New Rules and Concepts:
There are no squad plates but many of you have officers. Officers will have a regular d6 for skill but, if the entire group is doing one thing, can still give the expected skill upgrade to their troops. Officers cannot upgrade their own skill.
During this battle you will be in direct control of an Officer and will give orders from there. What this means is your line of sight is limited by your Officer's line of sight AND that of your troops. As things get hairy your vision will decrease. If your troops are far away from you it may be more challenging to issue orders. Keep this in mind.
I will most likely run any CC until someone wins because forum battles with turn after turn of stalemate are less fun
This battle will be run in DMs until such time as I post them publicly to keep players from using the sight lines of their foes to cheat. Fear not, everything will be posted eventually!
Any critical failure on a ranged attaack roll will result in the need to reload. You'll find lots of ammunition in the trenches if you run out. I will fudge how many magazines/etc your troops have so don't be discouraged.
As of the start of fighting, there are NO heroes. But, should you perform admirably in battle.....
Yes, you can ride the Giant Spider... if you dare... Also it's not a playable character.

Legacy Section:
The day is quiet.
Troopers gather in the silence, trying to pass the time.
Locusts hum lazily in the grass.
A machine gun sits idly, its operator scanning the horizon for threats.
An artillery crew maintains its gun, keeping it loose in the event of a fight.
The all important antenna array is quiet too, there aren't any orders to give right now.
The communications specialist stands up for a stretch.
Mikaes, a Devastator and current commander of this section of fortification, surveys the defenses.
Something is out there... isn't it?
Welcome to The Trenches.
This is going to be run a little differently than most forum battles I've seen.
First, the battle will run until the defenses are overwhelmed.
Second, those interested in playing as the Skion defense will need to "apply" for the position. I'll look at post count, history, etc and give the spot based on those things. Because of the tactical complexities of the defense and long-term nature of the battle I want to make sure the player sticks around.
New rules for this battle:
The defense must watch their ammunition. For every critical failure on a ranged attack roll the unit must reload. This will be done automatically and will not effect future actions. Magazines will be represented by element 48729 "Bar 1L with Clip Mechanical Claw." If a unit runs out of magazines they won't be able to make ranged attacks. Ammunition is finite but can be requesitioned with available ü.
The defense will earn ü through their fiery deeds in battle. As long as the antenna array is operational they can call in additional ammunition, reinforcements, or ordnance.
Officers can issue orders to increase their troopers effectiveness in battle. All troopers within 8" of the officer will be effected. Sample orders are:
Fix bayonets! Troopers will fix bayonets to their weapons if they can and gain 50% of their movement speed and +1d4 damage to melee attacks this turn in exchange for -1 to ranged attack rolls.
You will hold the line! Troopers gain 1d4 to their armor in exchange for -1 to their damage rolls this turn.
I tell you when you can die! When a trooper takes damage roll 1d6, on a 6 the damage is cancelled. While this order is issues attack rolls take a -1 penalty.
And others as I imagine them. Input also welcome.
Anyone can sign up as the Swarm or one of the numerous secret factions. They are a secret because each player can give some input as to the kind of force they want to deploy. There are no set alliances so watch your backs, attackers.
If you want one of your created armies to be present during this battle (either attacking or assisting in the defense) just shoot me a message with a breakdown of some of your troops. Part numbers appreciated. This seems like a good way to find some allies or enemies for future Skion drama. The Skion aren't on any sides for the current wars so anything is up for grabs. I'm also a little in the dark about who is on what side and all that so it could be an interesting time.
So to sum up!
Show interest in the Skion defense if you want.
Sign ups open to all for the Swarm or any of the Secret Factions.
Send me parts breakdowns for your own troops and you can control them in the battle.
The start of the battle is probably a ways off so I can put together different faction squads.
Reply with any questions or comments and sign ups are O P E N.
