Where all Roads Lead: Part III

The Magic SOB forum is for posts of story sequences that are frequently vignette-based. Put those here while actual battle reports can go in Reports From the Field.
You must talk like James T. Kirk in this forum at all times. Leonard Nimoy is fine too.

Where all Roads Lead: Part III

Part II

Image

Clouds of faint whispers and dead-ends finally gave way to light, a light that Quallon could hold onto. A light that would lead him to his lost comrade, Plaerus.

“Lord Quallon…” Vokalis, a Battle Mage, breaks the commander's gaze.

“Yes, Vokalis?” Quallon replied.

“Remind me again why we didn’t just beam directly to the target? Wouldn’t that allow us to go in, grab Plearus, and get out before anyone knew the wiser?”

“Perhaps, Vokalis. However, we also have orders to scout. With Brootalz converging on this location, we need to figure out why and make sure we don't walk straight into a trap. Besides, their is an aura about this place that leads me to believe a plan that easy would be bound to fail.”

Image

“Fan out and secure the perimeter so we don’t have any issues with the extraction!” Quallon directs the men towards the mountain entrance.

The Artifakt and Recovery soldiers press forward while Quallon and Vokalis gather around a corpse.

Image

“The blood stains seem relatively fresh, but this corpse is far too decayed. This reeks of some dark magic,” Vokalis hypothesizes while observing the viscera.

“Agreed. I sensed a similar power on the individual Palerus and I confronted. We must be on the right trail.”

Image

After securing the perimeter the group gathers at the entrance to the mountain.

“Sir, what’re your orders?” The officer asks Quallon.

Image

Quallon turns his attention to the aging entrance of what appears to be a temple of sorts.

Image

Quallon adorns his helmet once more and turns to issue his commands.

“The three of you will come with me, a smaller operation will allow is to navigate more stealthy. Vokalis and the reminder of you will hold a defense at the mountain base until we return.”

Image

“Its time to end this.” Quallon, trailed by a small squad, descend the passage to confront the mysterious figure.

The black and BT color scheme on those troopers looks sharp.
