Geodosia is a small, but powerful, corporate city-state on the planet Anord in the Drek Star Cluster. Legend has it that Geodesia was founded by a loose collective of digging enthusiasts bound by a common love of all things shiny. When the early settlers discovered that surrounding tribes and peoples would trade food and other necessities for raw chunks of matter in unique colors an economy (and a city) was born.

Geodesians gained a reputation for digging prowess and their great skill in finding shiny things underground. This natural skill was born more out of willingness to dig literally anywhere rather than some innate ability. Geodosia grew in power, influence, and wealth often being hired by other nations to dig up their cities, towns, farmlands, etc. in hopes of finding “shinies”. Usually, such mining operations were carried out with the understanding that the Geodesians would keep a small percentage of such wealth in payment for services rendered. In reality, the miners tended to split the find somewhere closer to 50/50 along with keeping all the “useless” raw materials from digs often selling a nation back its literal “land” at severely inflated rates.

The aggressive business practices along with the “undermining” of cities and all other points of power eventually landed Geodesia in hot water with many surrounding countries and city states. These nations came together to form the “Alliance of Disgruntled, Displaced, Dirt Owners”. This alliance demanded back all the dirt which the Geodesians held in stockpile. Faced with a much more powerful collective of countries able to crush them with ease, the Geodesians were understandably afraid, especially considering that their new city was built on top of the giant dirt mound in question. In addition the task of sorting out which dirt belonged to which country would be a monumental task indeed. However clever minds were busy at work and they acted swiftly in response to this crisis.

The Geodesian Mining Guild (GMG) was formed. As a non-governmental entity the guild assumed all control of mining operations within the city of Geodesia, as such it also owned all the dirt stockpiled by mining operations. In one fell swoop the Geodesian Mining Guild had taken a controlling interest in the landownership of every surrounding country. The “ADDDO” realizing that they had been duped prepared to make war on the Geodesian’s. However due to the GMG’s controlling interest the leaders of the Alliance were swiftly “reorganized” out of their jobs and collectively went into early “retirement” from which they were never heard of again.

The GMG now owned the land upon which the City of Geodesia was built. The leaders of the City reached an amicable agreement with the Mining Guild in which the GMG would lease the land to the city government, the GMG would also be taxed for their land holdings on Geodesian soil. Coincidentally the Taxes and Rent were the same price which made the accountants very happy on both sides. The GMG did agree to rent out some of its spare dirt to neighboring cities now crumbling due to lack of good foundations. This further solidified the GMG as the dominant force in the region.
