Good work with the shaping of the sloped sides. I've seen it in some starwars sets but never figured out how to do it right myself, so always a bit envious when someine does it as well as you do. Working on a ship myself, but my sides are not as sturdy or sloped.

That's what my mechanical engineering degree is for, I guess!Cakeman wrote:Good work with the shaping of the sloped sides. I moved the forward guns to the center of the frigate. What do you guys think?
Also, some glamour shots alongside the Artemis just to see how we're doing with style cohesion.

How do you make the ships sturdy enough to be moved? I don't know how a 100+ stud length structure wouldn't not flex and break.

The hangar is the core of the structure - the walls are completely solid, 2 studs thick. There are four Technic beams that span between the front and back walls and are bridged together at the center. There are two three-brick high keels that run below the hangar and about 25 studs beyond that on either side. So the whole middle 50% of the ship is extremely sturdy, interlocked construction, and the ends hang off of it.ninja_bait wrote:That's what my mechanical engineering degree is for, I guess!
There are thinner Technic beams going through the rear and fore decks that won't break, but will sag. If you stepped on either end, you would probably collapse the deck because there isn't much holding the floor to the ceiling. The front end sags noticeably, about 1 brick lower at the very end, so I cheated and the walls are just built in a way that hides the sagging.
I'll try and get some pictures tonight if you want to see more.

Is what you are talking about, with the technic bricks? I do appreciate the explanation. I don't post that often because I have to use internet at my job or the library. So sorry about not answering back quickly.

Re: Ninja_Bait's Build Blog
Moving has kept me out of my bricks for about a month. The comic is alright but drawing isn't as fun as building.
My new place has room for a little LEGO studio space. I still have to design and set up the storage but I unsealed a couple of the boxes last night to get my fix. Updates are forthcoming for the build blog project and my armory posts. I cooked up a new army that should be pretty fun (might even make it into the main Brikverse someday?)

I think that frame sitting on the cabinet below the shrink-wrapped destroyer is the falcon frame, though I can't tell if it's supposed to be cannibalized to bits or under construction.

Under construction... it's a project of "welcome to my house, help me build this"Omega Prime wrote:I think that frame sitting on the cabinet below the shrink-wrapped destroyer is the falcon frame, though I can't tell if it's supposed to be cannibalized to bits or under construction.

The projects multiply but the rate of completion goes down.
New Yellow frigate, not related to the yellow ones in the current Fleet Forum Battle. This is going to be an armored panel along one side of the frigate.
