Have you tried leadlighting, I mean, you need a soldering iron and lead, but you can make your own stain glass windows!

I'm not accurate enough at cutting the glass to do that yet. But these two most recent ones have too much opaque stuff anyway.

This one is really big. The background is a wooden deck that I helped build at my aunt's house. The mosaic is like 24" x 16" if I remember accurately, making it the largest piece I've done so far. I traced my arm and filled it in with chunks of broken glass. Then I made the rainbow and in the end I did the background. The background, even though it uses large pieces, took longer to make than the other two parts together. I call this one Reach because it makes sense.

In a way the background pieces felt like building with Lego. You might not notice, but I had more green and blue than purple, so I had to like ration the purple appropriately and distribute it so that it looked like I was using the same amount of it. It felt like when you have some of the part you need but not all of it so you need to be careful to not run out.

That sounds like it sucks.

It's the best game in the series! Halo 4 was shit compared to it.

I'm really digging the darker green and blue mosaics in the background. They look really psychedelic. I'm picturing them being used in a guitar :)

The cool thing about them is they're translucent so they look all kinds of different ways in the sun or out of the sun.

Check this one out, I made it as a commission. Someone I used to know through roller derby ordered it from me. It is about 16" x 16" and mostly stained glass.

I don't feel like it's super creative, but it's exactly what the guy wanted. I guess that's the point of a commission right?

Also, the colours are better IRL. The pink and blue are more vibrant. Computers just have a hard time with it and the photo wasn't taken in direct sun.

I have no real experience of mosaics- however having done some not entirely dissimilar stuff, that blue squiggly bit (just below & to the right of the centre) looks like a bitch to cut out properly and to size. Do you make templates and copy them exactly, or do you just have to :fudge: bits like that and cut the pieces out as you go?

That's a pretty good idea for a special gift. And if he got satisfied, then success!

It's cool to see you're making a bit of profit out of this.

For the "love" part I did have to try to cut the pieces a few times. I use this tool to cut small pieces like this; going over tiny pieces with a diamond cutter is like impossible. The tool sort-of naturally puts a curve into whatever pieces it cuts if you use it right so like with it I was able to eventually get a good set of pieces.

I didn't quite distinguish the L from the O at first glance, but now I now I look at it the letters actually came out quite well; even more so if you did it with what looks to me like a can opener.
