This was the first set that really caught my eye. sadly I never got one, my birthday being so close to tax season and all.
It reminded me of the Starwars Tauntaun scene, one of the most badass classic SW scenes IMO.

RoboForce, the descendants of 6951 Robot Command Center (my favorite set as a kid). It was a very small theme, unfortunately.

To be honest though that set was only my favorite until I got my first 6080 later that year.
For the most part I was able to take enough odd jobs around the neighborhood to afford all my dream sets as a kid (Lego was also a lot cheaper back then), but this is the one that got away:

Look at all those lasers!!
That was a sweet set, never had it but a mate did and rubbed my face in it every chance he got.

This is the one that I always regret never having gotten. It had a big screen and monorail tracks and actual Lego seats for actual Lego figures. I had not long started with Lego Space and was only a kid so had next to no dosh. This kid had this set and I looked on with envious eyes... until the 25th December when my parents bought me this...

This is my God of all Lego, but I still regret never managing to get the Lego Base set. Maybe this year.
