The Fords of Gelron (Round 6)

Post by Bragallot » Sat May 14, 2011 7:19 am

Round 6

Laura's remnants - Paco the Duck Ninja

Image

The last royal guard, outnumbered and alone, was easily overcome by the axemen.

Image

The spearmen attacked the remaining heavy swordsmen,

Image

but the Water Demons fought like, well, demons, stood their ground and slew one of their assailants in return.

Image

The owl danced around for a bit, giving the troops 3" extra move next time they would need it.

Waterdemons - Ogel96

Image

Fishstache attempted a feat, 'whispering waters',

Image

which failed narrowly (would've succeeded with the skill mod, but I guess that doesn't affect HF rolls), so he was attacked, but he wasn't impressed.

Image

His son, of course, succeeded.

Image

Whispers arose from the very waters themselves, making it seem as if the swamp itself was plotting against the invaders...

Image

This broke the resolve of all soldiers who rolled less than a 3, and sadly enough for the Kerratian forces there were quite a few who dropped their weapons and surrendered, or chose to run...

Image

Image

Image

These guys were smart enough to run. Oh, the owl rolled badly as well, so I guess we can say he flew away.

Image

Two crossbowmen were then slain, counters did nothing...

Image

The spearmen, abandoned by his squaddies, was murdered.

Skaie's remnants - Napalmking

Image

He picked up a halberd and tried to kill an enemy, but missed.

Image

The crossbowmen fought hard (he really did), but the multitude of the attackers (two heroes) ultimately sealed his fate.

Image

"My lord! You must live!" the officer, aware the fight was lost, cried out.

The officer had another go at cpr... And what can I say, he got a 5, a 6, then a 4 on top of that 6, so I allowed it, to some degree, since technically at this point he'd surrendered.

Image

Unnoticed thanks to the battle, Skaie, half-dead, stumbled off the field. He was in a too bad shape to even curse Lord Fabian's name any more.

Image

The ex-commander left his armour behind on a fallen soldier, for to his enemies he was only one of many faceless knights in the army of Kerrat, and they would still think they had killed him.

Conclusion

Image

Only three battle-ready crimson footmen were left, and they realized they didn't stand a chance and fighting here would be pointless: even if they survived the three of them couldn't hope to hold this position or assault the walls of Gelron!

Image

So they chose to rout, hoping they could make it back to Starkeep and their commander.

Image

Those survivors who had been foolish enough not to run were driven together...

Image

... and a grisly slaughter took place: Water Demons weren't known to show compassion or bother to take prisoners of war.

Image

Fishstache: "We are the only ones to survive this! The Water Demons are SUPREME!"

Aftermath

Image

"It's the Bloodguard of Gelron!"

Image

"Congratulations with your victory here, lord Fishstache. I would've loved to cut some of these Kerratian's heads off myself, but I had orders to guard the city. I've already contacted the King. Your new orders are to rebuild your army while continue guarding this area against the Falx's raids. Most of all, try to keep them away from the Bull's territories. My father would've preferred if you hadn't killed the prisoners of war, but he is wiling to see this through on this occassion, just take it as a future notice."

Image

"Fine. It shall be done."

So, those were the Fords, hope you enjoyed yourself. Stay tuned for the final killchart (I've decided it's easier to do this at the end of battles) and an update of the main table of bragging rights. After I clear this table I can concentrate on Freedom's Blood.

Edit: done.

Kills / Results

Warhead 3 - Victory. The Deathsquad was eliminated and didn't kill Skaie themselves, but they killed an enemy commander and ultimately helped achieve victory.
RobotMonkey 10 - Defeat. His forces were obliterated and Lord Fabian died with them, which weakens the war effort at home. At least the enemy were dealt heavy losses as well.
Napalmking 9, 2 friendly fire - Defeat. Lord Skaie (supposedly) died, and his force was obliterated, obliging Kerrat to look for another commander. At least the enemy were dealt heavy losses as well.
Ogel96 37 - Victory. Despite heavy losses the enemy invasion force was all but wiped out, increasing the reputation of our warriors and granting opportunities for future slaughter!
Paco The Duck Ninja 17 - Defeat. Laura was killed and most of her forces destroyed. At least the enemy was dealt heavy losses as well.
Rev. Sylvanus 1 - Victory. The death of Karlus, the guardian of the swamp, was the sorest loss of the day, but he helped achieve this victory.

Moral victory is better than defeat. I'll admit I got a bit confused as to what the commander I was sent to kill looked like, they should have big flags or name badges or something. :D

Great fight Brag, thanks! 8)

Lulz, Warhead making the least kills in this fight, that's odd... great game, nevertheless, I've enjoyed lurking it.

Well, I had a giant who was a real bitch in Enemy At The Gates, so I tuned down their stats a little, however I also just roll really badly for them for some reason. They're also not very effective at attacking squads for the same reason as the halberdiers were failing this round: there's a lot of dice in their attack but the dice don't have a 'mod' like the other weapons, so if you know most of my units have 5 armour it's not very effective if you have to spread them over the squad (plus, some block)... I'll arrange this differently next time 'cos there's going to be more squad-based battles (for the larger ones this is essential). I still learn every game I host :D

I was disproportionately effective considering the size of my force and the scale of the mission. Without me in the way for much of the game that Cavalry Charge could have struck and caused some serious damage. I'll trust the Bulls in the other campaign to rack up kills for my enviable total.

And that is why you never underestimate the power of FEATS!

I'm still happy with how my guys did. They didn't take any losses until the second to last round, nearly wiped out Fat Olaf's forces, killed Karlus, and obliterated the Bulls.

They did fight well, but as Ogel pointed out the feats were indeed decisive.
