Scariest Game You've Played?

Postby morganm » Mon Jun 20, 2011 12:59 pm

A few years ago I was playing DOOM 3. In an IRC channel I said how freaky it was and couldn't handle more than 10 minutes of it at a time. Someone said that DOOM was nothing compared to F.E.A.R. Promptly went out and got that game... holy shit... scariest damn game I've ever played.

It wasn't just scary though it actually had a mysterious plot that unfolded as you progressed. Nothing as good as Half-Life and HL2 but way better than DOOM's retarded 'plot' of "find the key, find the door, repeat 100 damn times until you get to Hell, kill big bad evil guy, victory!"

Now I'm working my way through F.E.A.R 2. Yesterday I seriously screamed out-loud when some freaky zombie mad scientist things jumped out of the shadows and started eating my face. It's a little too similar to the first one but I'm still enjoying it; hopefully the plot will take a more interesting turn away from the first. I mostly enjoy the tactical gun fights more than the plot really.

Have you played any games that were seriously scary?

In prince of persia warrior within (not the retarded disney version, this one is brikwarsy) there are these moments where the dahaka chases you. It's a human-shaped monster which tries to catch with its tentacles. If you'd have to fight it, there would be no problem. Just a boss fight. But the fact, that you can't kill it, only run away with it, drives me crazy...it's damn scary as when it comes closer the world's colours fade and if you fail a single time you see when it catches you....not too scary, but still quite.

Well I'm not squeamish like you, but F.E.A.R. is still pretty damn scary. Which reminds me that F.3.A.R. comes out in the fall.

I'm still surprised that you guys don't get in trouble or get mugged playing that.

Minecraft has it's moments, honestly. Walking through a dark cave, looking up at a momentary flash of light- seeing three creepers spawn- GETTING THE FUCK OUT-

I quite liked Resident Evil in the old days. We had just moved into our house and had stripped the walls so it looked pretty close to the games indoor scenery, bare light bulbs and torn wallpaper, no curtains etc. So I'm playing Resident Evil at 4am with the window open for the paint fumes and the lights off and even fog rolling by outside... and then there was a spine chilling shriek as two foxes started fighting right outside the window. I quickly saved the game and went to bed. Fuck that shit.
