Which set should I buy?

Post by Thyclaine » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:23 am

Okay, I just sold some stuff on eBay, and I have about 40-50 dollars to spend. I've been wanting a pirate set for a while, so which set should I get?

1. Imperial Outpost http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?SetID=6263-1

2. Pirates Ambush http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?SetID=6249-1

3. Forbidden Island http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?SetID=6270-1

I like all of these, and they are all in my price range.

I'd go Forbidden Island or Pirate's Ambush myself. :)
It's a secret to everybody.

Forbidden island, definitely. I got it on ebay for cheap and it was awesome. Looks like, though, the lowest price I can see is around 30$. If you want, you can look at the instructions of sets on Peeron to se how they are built and see every feature and brick, so you know what you're buying.
I think those stats only apply to non-Mexicans.

Yeah, I was favoring Forbidden Island to start with.

I'll probably get it.

I know your situation, sometimes there are so many fantastic sets and you just can't decide which one..

Yep.

I wish Lego made those kinda sets these days.

I know. I mean, Lego does have some great sets theses days, but a lot of them flat out suck, and the ones that are great, while being great, have this... new.. feeling to them. Legos Before 2003 are teh pwnz. The old ones, have this great , you know, classic feel to them, with no fancy new pieces.

Luckily most of the core of my Lego C hoard is made up of old pieces.

I agree. Instead of building a tower out of bricks, now you just attach one "half-of-a-tower brick" to another "half-of-a-tower brick".

I owned every Life on mars set, and these new mars sets are cool, but not the same. The new aliens are dissapointing. "Hmm, lets make the aliens part of the "armlessius" phylum."
A Wizard is never late. Nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.

If I ever got a Time Machine, the first thing I would do is go back and buy all the old Pirates and Ice Planet sets when they were out.

I think you should save up just a little more and buy 6273 Rock Island Refuge. That was one of my favorite sets of all time. I saved the instructions and I've actually rebuilt it 3 times since I bought it in 1991.

I have such a huge Lego hoard, I can actaully completely build old sets that I never owned using my own pieces and instructions from Peeron.

And yeah, RIF looks even better.
