I used them A LOT.
If you have a look at the world i posted i linked my main structures by rail. Why? because chest carts shorted the trips of hauling materials(powered cart is slightly slower, up to 8x inventory space made it worth it).
Also being able to stick coal in a furnace, hop in a cart, go grab something to eat/read the news, then return to minecraft. instead of; Half W for quarter of an hour.
Also up and down from mines, boosters made it even better. You can dump a load into a cart and kick it up the rails, then hop in another cart and get transported up in no time at all! Instead of walking up and down from bedrock 4 times.
But with them bugged up I don't even feel like playing as it makes my favourite thing to make useless.
Either way this is really de-railed.
So: it's a game about zombies with children. It will either be amazing and really fun, OR it will be a terrible TF2 rip off with pretty graphics.

I don't see much tf2 aside from the fact that it has classes, customization, and online play. After all, it looks like there wont be any PVP, while tf2 has no PVE. Not saying it will be good, just saying it doesn't scream tf2.

No, it's not exactly a TF2 ripoff, but I can see why people might think that. I'm thinking that the game will have one of the following problems:
6 - Be incredibly buggy.
7 - Take forever to finish.
8 - Be boring or tedious to play.
