The world population stat is wrong.
The only way to tell what is going on is to use the continent warp terminal. Those stats seem correct.

On Indar, the desert continent:
We always defend Crown.
The map can look all blue and purple, it doesn't matter, we always defend crown, for as long as we can hold it, we hold it.

This afternoon we had a 2-3 hour battle around Crown and the adjacent zones.

I played online games for 4 years before using a mic in a game.
We all just used text. It seemed normal and you can text and play most games no problem, MMOs.
Import game stuff rolls up the chat window so we were watching it and rarely missed stuff.

The first time I used a mic/teamspeak was with Planetside 1.
With a game like this nobody is reading the chat ever.
If someone does read the chat its by accident, oops I read some words.

I do throw out local /say text to warn the general area about stuff, but I don't expect people to see it.
Putting text into chat is like a message in a bottle, maybe someone sees it, maybe not.

It took me an hour to find my old mic when I started PS2, because I havent use it since PS1.
Yes there is a reluctance at first to do it, but once you get over the weirdness its perfectly normal and you'll wonder how you ever managed before.

I have pretty much always used mics in games, mostly in FPS'es where people don't really look at the chat, and World Of Warcraft top-teir raiding where you *need* to have a mic because you cannot take your eyes of your cooldowns/health/the boss patterns/the health of your other raid members/your DPS meter (gotta have that e-peen)

I have mic and headphone jacks at front and back.

You could probably buy a cheap sound card just to get the jacks. If you have an open slot.

The machine is a mid-2010 MacMini that was (and is) used as a server, no real considerations for gaming or anything like that. But hey, 8gb RAM, and while the graphics card is the shitty integrated laptop type, it's still a vast improvement over my last two computers! (the third most recent comptuter I've owned was better, but I made the mistake of buying a cheap power supply and of course that led to a failure which fried all of my ram and both of my hard drives! DON'T BUY THE CHEAPEST POWER SUPPLY)

Right now I have an agreement where I get to use the computer but a bunch of guys run a wiki server on it. This way, I managed to get the hardware for a price that was less than stratospheric.

But um yeah, would be fun to play a game or two with you all. I'm not really a hardcore game, so expect that I will suck at whatever it is. and that I probably don't own it unless I bought it during highschool.
