Minifig 3D model

I made it in Lightwave 9.2
Its not a high rez model, just 1250 polys. So you may see some facets.

Do a backflip!

That is seriously COOL.
Often, literally, a pillow fight but may include similar situations like volleyball, particularly when wardrobe is skimpy and the action is bouncy.

Thanks guys!

Its not 100% exact, I know there are still a few spots that are off a bit, even though I measured them 10 times. Its not easy to measure to fractions of a millimeter :)

It's better than I could do (minus my lack of Lightwave skill...).

Looks good. The head is really clean, and the only thing that sticks out, to me, are the hands... the insides of them don't seem very smooth.

By the by, what do you plan to use it for, other than bragging rights for your Lightwave mastership?

Yeah I spotted those lines on the hand too, not sure what happened there. I have some non-planar polys in the arm, so I'll be giving everything another look. I just wanted to post what I had so far.

The head has 24 segments and the hand only 12, should have probably done a few more, although the arm has 12 and will look ok once I fix a few polys.

I have a Lightwave job comming up soon and I havent even touched it since March 06, so I need some practice and this seemed like a good idea. I might make a MiniMe out of it. :)

I was also thinking about using my new found minifig lore to design a similar style minifig that doesn't break patents.

Hey Tzan, is there any plans on animating your minifig in Lightwave ?

I have thought about it. I've never rigged and animated anything before, but this looks simple enough to experiment with. We'll see, it wont happen anytime soon though.

There are some (at least one) 3D Lego animation samples at YouTube. Go have a look, if you need some inspiration.

Have a look at this one: Nice Pants

Very nice. Only thing I'd suggest, is that the head seems a bit tall and skinny to me... Might want to edit that by a little bit... And I absolutely must learn how to do this.
Red Clay Studios Click here, and read my latest battle report! More coming soon.

Thats a bit of an optical illusion, I noticed that too and had to double check. The head is 10mm wide and 8.5mm tall, not counting the stud or neck.
I was debating droping it down to 8mm.

Hold a minifig in your hand at a 45 degree angle(ish).

But yeah it looks wrong, but isn't.

I wish I had a Micrometer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micrometer

Nice model. I'm making one right now. Yes, Lego guys are some of the easiest characters to animate.

Thanks guys

Lightwave is made by Newtek. B5, Star Trek, 300 and lots of other movies/tv shows use it for CG animation.
