Fetters are items and equipment which have been fashioned from ectoplasmic energy that has been made permanently corporeal in some manner. Though there are a handful of other ways to craft Fetters, by far the most common method is to harvest and shape the element known as Ecto-115. The element, though often crystallized in form, is soft to the touch and manipulates easily by a mixture of physical shaping and a focused effort of will. Ecto-115 is densest in the Devoid Sector but by no means does that murderous space hold total dominion over the element. Since its inception into the BrikVerse, Ecto-115 has spread like a wildfire through space and time, corrupting the energies of much that it comes into contact with. Perhaps most affected were the death energies already inherent in the universe and those that were later created by other phenomena or cultures. In any case, Ecto-115 is a naturally occurring permanently corporeal expression of ectoplasmic energy which furthermore emits an ectoplasmic radiation. This radiation has the potential to corrupt other substances nearby and thus grows all on its own if left to fester in one place for a long enough period of time. More importantly, spectral creatures can use this radiation as free energy to forcibly manifest into the realverse. Donning an item crafted from Ecto-115 allows them to remain corporeal as long as they wish or until the item is destroyed. The same is essentially true of Fetters crafted by other means. Fetters, then, have turned many ghostly cultures from being mere spooks into actual, terrifying armies.
