The Varangian Republik, also known as Varyag , Is an large nation-state situated in the central regions of Serica on Mir. Situatied in a turbulent region where it has been frequentley conquered and occupied by its neighbors, it has only enjoyed independence for brief periods over time. It's most recent tenure has been both it's longest and most legitimized. Today it is a somewhat backwards developing nation with very high potential.

Military

The Varangian Army started as the remnants of the CSSR's forces that were deployed there, mostly comprising of individuals who were originally from there. The army was gutted over the years, much of it's equipment was sold to the highest bidders, often going to both sides of the eternal conflict between Verklund and Sangria, and sometimes even making its way as far as Yuzha. By R2020, When the Slavonik Imperiya suddenely landed troops in Nodgyrod during the R2020 Presidential crisis, the army had no experience fighting, and was horribly unprepared and unequiped. The territory was ceded without a fight and when neighboring Zaratozom appeared to be under attack by violent militias spurred on by Slavka, the Army was drawn into a counter-insurgency that lasted two years. During this period they recieved training and equipment from various North Sea Alliance states, by R2022 the conflict had spurred out of control and Slavka had fabricated excuses and public consent to launch a full scale invasion of the country. At present the war is still underway, and the Varangian army despite all expectations, has not been defeated. As a result despite it's small relative size and population, Varyag possesses one of the most capable and battle hardened armies on Mir, enough to give even the North Sea Alliance and Yuzha pause.
