November 30, 2004 - BrikWars News Feed and other MT stuff

Whoops - meant to go into more detail about this in the last post, but forgot:

If you want to subscribe to BrikWars news, your blog needs to be set up to handle XML feeds, and you need to point it to our newsfeed URL:

http://www.brikwars.com/mt/index.rdf

I'm ruling out e-mail notification for now, I'm not sure I like MT's built-in system for it.

There's been a lot of email traffic asking for some kind of BrikWars site forum as well; it's a good idea but I don't know when I'll have the time to set it up. Anybody has recommendations for forum systems, leave a comment. Ideally I'd like one with a newsgroup structure closer to the chronological arrangement of Lugnet rather than a topic-based bulletin board system like UBB.

Last note: sometimes the comment system doesn't notice that you're already signed in to TypeKey, for whatever reason. Just hit the "sign in" button on the comment page again, that seems to fix it.

I've set up an exntension to MT before that allows users to subscribe to specific posts, and allows them to manage those subscriptions easily themselves. Another option is to set up a mailing list, and have it automagically get emailed when a new post shows up, and allow users to sign up to that list.

Also, you should set up an RSS feed with comments!

When you say you've "set up an extension," do you mean you:

a) turned on some feature already present in MT that I haven't found yet
b) found a downloadable plug-in extension somewhere that you then installed on your system
c) hand-coded your own extension and have come here to lord it over me
d) have an unnatural attraction to Best-Lock Construction Toys
