The Blue Imperials
The Imperials began their turn cautiously.  The foot samurai and the grey ninja approach from the east, under cover of the bamboo grove.  The woman samurai decides to walk around the south side of the hill and wade through the pond.
The deadly bamboo forest
The grey ninja sizes up a bamboo stalk and thinks about chopping it down to use as some kind of weapon.  A nearby skeleton grins at him, apparently happy to be impaled on a spear in the Pit of Death.  An ill omen?
The ninja prepares for his greatest challenge
The rest of the Imperial Army approaches stealthily.  The Ashigaru gunners advance under cover of Crapp Hill.  The Imperial cannons roll in slowly from the west.
Sneaky bastards
Finally, the mounted samurai make a fierce charge, allowing them to attack before the bandits have time to raise the alarm.  First blood goes to a samurai archer, who kills a bandit porter manning one of the cannons.
Here comes the cavalry

Peasant Rabble
The surly doctor sees the bandit porter fall and begins heading towards him.  His peasant buddies follow closely behind.
A motley crew

The Red Bandits
The bandit porter manning the second cannon, having survived the archers' attack, shouts the alarm and dives for cover behind the first cannon.  He grabs a pistol conveniently mounted on the side of the cannon on his way past.
Diving for cover
Hearing the alarm, the mountain demon begins marshalling his forces.  The bandit musketeer takes cover as best he can on the outer wall, and the two demon sohei hop down onto the gunpowder cart.  The demon realizes that he is in quite a pickle because it will be nearly impossible to get the gunpowder and cannonballs from the cart to the cannons without getting shot by the mounted archers.
Jumping on gunpowder
A red ninja on the east wall takes a flying leap and stealthily makes his way to a hollow stump, undetected by the nearby imperial gunners.  He is unable to suppress an evil chuckle as he hides himself in the stump, and the mounted Imperial officer wonders why the stump is laughing at him.
The laughing stump

A red ninja on the west wall, knowing that the cannons are next to useless, takes the torch from the cannon operator and runs out to thumb his nose at the Imperial cannon unit.  'What is he doing?' they wonder, as he waves the torch around and laughs maniacally.  The ninja makes a mighty throw, hucking the torch directly at the gunpowder cart.

Boy are they in for a surprise
Ka-boom!  A direct hit with the flaming torch causes the gunpowder to explode, destroying both cannons and killing a number of the porters.  The officer in charge of the cannon unit says, "d'oh!!" as the ninja returns to his hiding place.
Ka-boom!
A ninja on the north wall sheathes his katana and dashes out to grab the body of the fallen porter, to the surprise of the mounted samurai.  Because all of them have expended their attacks, none are prepared to take opportunity fire on the crazy ninja.
Raising the dead
The ninja chucks the dead body over the wall to hit the samurai archer.  The damage is not enough to knock the archer out, and not quite enough to knock him off his horse, but the flying corpse does manage to knock the bow out of the archer's hand.  The bow lands in a nearby bush, and the ninja returns to his hiding place in the tower.
An unwelcome embrace
